Kent
27 minutes ago, jonovision said: Vancouver, Cavalry and Pacific have all been averaging below the league average this season, while a York crowd should likely more than cancel out an HFX one, so that overall average likely dips a bit. You could very well be correct. I don't keep track of which team drew which crowds, but there is a guy on Facebook who does. He's got average attendances of 1400 for York, 6097 for HFX, 2930 for Vancouver (not including the Kelowna game), 3881 for Cavalry, and 2988 for Pacific. So if the missing games had average crowds for those teams that would work out to 24107 fans for 7 games and an average in those games of 3444, bringing the season to date league wide average attendance to 3980, which would be a 7.2% increase. masster
The Vancouver crowd felt much better than any other match I have attended minus the inaugural game. If that sort of attendance can become the baseline, then they will have something to build on. CDNFootballer, Stanley, RJB and 1 other

shermanator
League average over 4000. Valour, Vancouver and York up 16-18%. Cavalry up 5.7% through 9 games compared to 2023. Wasn't expecting that with the start to the season they had. Bbeto, gator and Ivan

I calculate the league average as 3989. At the same point (70 games, I'm not counting tonight's game) last season the league average was 3714. So that's a 7.4% increase this season so far. The last 5 weeks have all averaged more fans per game than those same weeks in 2022 or 2023. Here is my updated graph... finally. Kent
P.S. So last season the average as I said was 3714 at this point in the season. By the end of the season the average was 3838 (or so, I've got some conflicting numbers). So if there is a similar increase this season the rest of the way out, the league will be over 4000 per game for the first time since year 1 (4286 average in season 1). Kent
Since they went back and filled in the attendance numbers for all the games this season, there have been 4 games played. None of them have attendance reported yet. There are several fans that look for these attendances regularly and record the attendances for fun in their own spreadsheets, charts, etc. If the league has such a hard time updating the numbers, can the league really not give one of these people the tools/information for updating the numbers on the website so we don't have to wait weeks? I'm sure any one of these people (like myself) would happily do it for free. Kingston

Kent
Thanks @jonovision. With those numbers I have another completed "week". It's the 4 game span ending with York v Cavalry on August 16th. It's the second lowest attended week of the season only ahead of week 4. I'll have the next week whenever we get the numbers for the Valour v HFX game on August 17th, and that week will be a low average as well. But the week after that I've got the first 3 numbers for, and it has a chance to crack 5000 average for the second time this season, depending on the attendance at Forge v Pacific. Kent
Picture from Facebook CPL fan group page. This makes the 2nd game of the season of more than 7k fans (Forge season opener being the other). In each of 2022 and 2023 there were 3 games above 7k. In 2023 it was the league opener (in Ottawa), the last game in Ottawa of the season, and the final (in Hamilton). In 2022 it was the last 3 playoff games of the season (2 in Ottawa, 1 in Hamilton). Honestly, with how good these teams are relative to MLS teams, they are probably more deserving of between 7k to 15k average attendance rather than what they actually have been drawing. Similar case across the league, but obviously typically with stadium restrictions. But I am glad that we are still trending up! BigBadBorto
They didn't announce the attendance today at Wanderers game, but it was a very good crowd - near capacity. I would guess 6,200 -6,300. Considering we are last (or now tied for last) this is great. If we can keep the playoff possibility alive I think we can keep the final 4 games above 6k.
