rydermike
From seeing a discussion on Reddit, I thought it'd be interesting to make a list of all the players who earned international caps while in the CPL. Seeing as how I've seen us many times discussing how it's provided players with opportunities they wouldn't have gotten)(such as playing internationally for a second smaller nation), I thought I'd compile a list. For simplicity, I kept it to senior caps only (no youth caps), and not any training camps, call-ups with no actual cap, and only players who got them while in the CPL (so Waterman/MacNaughton didn't make the list). Is this list accurate? I went through wikipedia seeing the international plays who had caps listed. Let me know if I am missing anyone/did I include anyone I shouldn't have. I also added a column if they were also Canadian eligible CPL players who earned SENIOR caps while they were playing in the CPL Player Country Year of 1st cap while in CPL Canadian national? Emilio Estevez Chinese Taipei 2019 Canadian Emery Welshman Guyana 2019 Canadian Quillan Roberts Guyana 2019 (earned a cap with Canada before) Canadian Justin Springer St. Kitts and Nevis 2019 (earned caps before) Canadian Ryan Telfer Trinidad and Tobago 2019 Canadian Ali Musse Somalia 2019 Canadian Akeem Garcia Trinidad and Tobago 2019 Abd-El-Aziz Yousef Somalia 2019 Canadian Amer Didic CANADA 2020 CANADA Tristan Borges CANADA 2020 CANADA Omar Browne Panama 2021 (earned caps before) Federico Pena Trinidad and Tobago 2021 Canadian Jems Geffard Haiti 2021 (earned caps before) Canadian Garven Metusala Haiti 2022 Canadian Andrew Jean-Baptiste Haiti 2022 (earned caps before) Alex Marshall Jamaica 2022 (earned caps before) Molham Babouli Syria 2022 Canadian Javier George Guyana 2022 (earned caps before) William Akio South Sudan 2022 Canada Gianni Dos Santos Cape Verde 2022 Billy Forbes Turks and Caicos 2022 (earned caps before) Gabriel Bitar Lebanon 2022 Canadian Edited 1 minute ago by rydermike Aird25, Kent, Ftduck and 4 others 6
Aird25
@rydermikegreat thread. Cheers. I imagine Balidisimo will be added soon for Philippines. I think he’s been called 3 times without playing (Covid, registration, and injury).

narduch
Technically were there not a few Canadians at the 2020 Camp Poutine? Edit: Didic and Borges did play at the 2020 Camp Poutine. Edited January 3 by narduch

Maybe there hasn't been as much interest since leaving Pacific. He missed out in late 2021 due to injury, but I don't know if he's been called since https://northerntribune.ca/pacific-fc-matthew-baldisimo-injury-2021/

Edit: Didic and Borges did play at the 2020 Camp Poutine. I just kept it simple and just used actual caps, since those were a lot easier to track than call-ups, especially for non-Canada countries. For me, this was the easiest way to have a consistent method for inclusion. Edited January 3 by rydermike

Borges has 1 cap after subbing on v Barbados on January 10, 2020 in a 4-1 win. Didic has 2 caps from playing in that Camp Poutine. He debuted in the 1st Barbados game and played v Iceland too Edited January 4 by narduch rydermike
narduch
Just for completeness. Borges did not transfer to OHL until after getting his first Canada cap.

Somehow I was thinking Camp Poutine was just a camp, didn't realize they had some friendlies. I'll add them later when I get to a computer (just on my phone now) narduch
yothat2
İs it full international caps or u-20/23 level counts?

I had that written in the first post, since it'd get over complicated with youth caps (and those are harder to track for international countries) Edited January 4 by rydermike johnyb
Cblake
Quillan Roberts did have one cap prior for Canada in 2015 before filing his one time switch.
rydermike
New potential caps: Jonathan Grant - Guyana Bren Soumaoro - Liberia Andre Rampersad - Trinidad And Tobago Euguene Pele Martinez - Belize Pacifique Niyongabire - Burundi Question for you all: Should they play, should I include Soumaoro/Martinez/Niyongabire in the list since they haven't played their first CPL game yet? Should it be a only while you're playing list or a while you're under contract list?
