bugsey2k
In July 2021, REAL District announced a long term plan that spoke to adding a synthetic turf field to the northwest of Mosaic Stadium. They mentioned the plan of adding 5,000 seats to this field at a later stage. REAL seems to be getting more enthusiastic. Ozzie_the_parrot
^^^does this guy ever contribute anything positive here? If he'd bothered to actually read the article it should have been obvious that Regina is being played off against Saskatoon to ensure that at least one gets off the ground. ...Obviously, we’d like to see Saskatoon get up and running but, at the end of the day, if things don’t come together in Saskatoon and we can’t get a stadium financed and built then maybe Regina becomes the next logical place to look. I shouldn’t say maybe – it does become the next place to look and work hard on. And we’ve had preliminary discussions with some folks in Regina about doing something and those conversations are ongoing but, right now, Saskatoon is the focus... Unnamed Trialist
What I said on the other thread: let's not let the attendance for a u-23 match at Mosaic be the barometer of possible interest for soccer in Regina. They got 15,000 for Valencia-Cosmos a few years ago, that should be indication enough. There's a core interest in soccer in the city. Point made. narduch, Kent, ted and 2 others

Simpson did his due diligence as well with the Select series before Covid hit. But like in Quebec a little smoke doesnt mean much....unfortunately. Hopefully on the 7th there will be some concrete news about Saskatoon....maybe that'll spur Regina on as per the parrot/blizzards assumption. The story bugsy linked is more interesting with big plans for the soccer center...but again its a year old....has there been any follow up there? A useful stadium is the stumbling point for both Simpson and a Regina group eh?? Nobody seems to want CPL teams in the existing big football stadiums, and plenty go out of their way to post copious pictures of empty stands. If the CPL is going to expand into smaller centres, where land is easier to obtain, then a Halifax-like stadium is far preferable to a CFL venue. johnyb
toontownman
Big month ahead for the Saskatoon bid. We will likely know either way if this happens or not. Hard to see there ever being a better option for Saskatoon than this but it will be down to whether the councilors vote to fund it. Would certainly be interesting to see if REAL and LSSE join forces in Regina if Saskatoon is denied. Technically LSSE has the SK rights and I don't know how easy that will be to null or pass over? Either way I'd hope we can get a Regina and Saskatoon team in the Prairie L1 league when it hopefully starts in 2023. bugsey2k
https://leaderpost.com/sports/soccer/friendly-game-of-footy-to-kick-off-queen-city-ex-in-august Last week's Regina Leader-Post article announcing the U23 game August 3rd, including quotes from REAL, as it hasn't been included in this thread. REAL CEO speaks to the need for an intermediate size soccer stadium rather than using Mosaic. toontownman, Bison44 and johnyb
bugsey2k
Day of the U23 game between Sunderland and TFC II, and ticketmaster is showing 3,916 tickets distributed by my count. Originally they tried to sell the entire lower bowl, but they have since moved all ticket purchases between the goal lines and about three quarters up the west (shady/tv broadcast side) of the field. Tickets get you admitted to the Queen City Exhibition, interested to see if there will be many fairgoers who pop into the stadium to check out the action.
