They can receive some bonuses when they qualify for a tournament or for other circumstances. Also, some sponsors can give money to these players They do get paid. Loose change for top pros but it can be a nice pay out for lower tiered players like those in the CPL. They can get screwed if the Fed is being mismanaged as we have seen in Concacaf & CAF. It's also why the USWNT has been battling with their Fed as the women get about 5k/match while the men get about 13k. There are bonuses for winning matches/qualifying/advancing out of group stages etc..But there are also appearance fees. The English FA pay the men about 1k/matches when they lose. BBC estimated that from 2008-2018, England national team players got 3.5k/match. But the English players generally donate their national team pay to charities. Mbappe revealed he donated his 29k Russia World Cup per match appearance fee to charity. K Edgar
the re-signed continue to roll in... slowly... Peña, 22, made 26 appearances for a total of 1,420 minutes played and one assist in 2021. Baquero, 27, made 23 appearances for a total of 1,830 minutes played and one goal in 2021. ...next will be Ricci? Levis? Aleman? Big_M
lets bring back that losing squad baby Dos Santos sees Baquero as a fixture at left back, with Peña having the ability to flip from one side to the other. “For Andy, right back is his best position and it’s where we’re going to play him for the duration of the season,” he said. “Now, there’s situations where you might have an emergency and that’s why his flexibility is important. which one is it? left or right toontownman

EnigMattic1
What does everyone thing about the goalkeeping position? It's been very quiet on that front other than the fact that Dos Santos would like Sirois back. My understanding is, Tsai wouldn't take up a roster slot due to the contract he would be on but what could be another option if we couldn't get Sirois back? I would not be surprised if the following GKs were invited to training camp with 2 retained (or 1 retained if Sirois returns) Matt Silva (30) - backup GK last year, but will be pushed (or pushed out?) by younger options Svyatik Artemenko (21) - was on the roster a couple of years ago. CPL-USport undrafted all-star with UGuelph. Yuba-Rayane Yesli (22, 6'7") - USport draft and training camp pick last year, ended up in Quebec league I believe Tsai (<=18) - too young to really contend for the job. Remain on Development contract Edited January 25, 2022 by K Edgar

Remain on Development contract I was half expecting Artemenko to be drafted if I'm honest. What's your opinion on Matthew Nogueira? U23 Canadian international, recently back in Canada from playing in Portugal I hear Marc Dos Santos thinks highly of him too. johnyb and Pottsy3

toontownman
Aleman was poor. Sad about Galhardo, obviously has talent, maybe not the fitness or perhaps better offers. Either way seeing those two out and Fordyce staying 🤮

Loads of skill, but we haven't seen him put it together in the CPL yet. toontownman, johnyb and Ivan
K Edgar
Keven Alemán signed by Ottawa. 5 loans ended, plus Moutou, Galhardo, Aleman and Soto all gone. Less the 4 new signings. That is at least 5 holes to still fill. 7 potential returnees still to be confirmed by my count (Kacher, Galan, Ricci, Levis, Silva, Tomy, Mikhael)

Rodrigo Reyes from Guadalajara (Mexico) and Jared Ulloa from Sporting Cristal (Peru) neither were a great success. They also signed Amir Soto from Universitario (Panama) which was even less successful. The 4th (Walter Ponce) and 5th tries are bound to succeed, right?!?
