wallflower
Both Valour and York have been disappointing in their roster building, except season one, with more Canadians. Clearly with top-performing teams demonstrating that Canadian-developed talent is not the problem, why are both these teams devolving into fewer Canadians (or fewer Canadian-developed because simply holding the citizenship card is only a paperwork feature) and, in the case of Valour, so much older non Canadians. (Why not give older Canadian-developed players a berth if insisting on that pathway?) But without a doubt, the shocker is York - in the development heartland of Canada, the 905 heartland of the epicentre of Canadian soccer population in development. If gate receipts have ever mattered, this team has really blown up that revenue channel. Is it possible there is a correlation between the roster points of origin and the number of bums in seats? The most fanatic will be excited and encouraged by broad/international imports. But the majority of bums in seats are not that interested in that aspect. At this level, they go out to see their relative, their friend's friend, their cousin's sister's BF. etc. Mikmacdo

The noncontenders, though, really don't look like they will ever contend the way things are trending. A few new teams would be good just make the disparity a little less obvious and to mix things up a bit. jonovision
I'm willing to see how it goes. Hard to imagine any central striker (is he one?) playing worse than Haber or that English guy from the New Zealand league from the first half of season 1. Even Ricci isn't very impressive. K Edgar
The following player are listed in the CPL-USport draft and attended the 2021 Valour pre-season training camp ARTEMENKO, Svyatoslav - GK - University of Guelph - born 2000 (also 2019 Valour roster) GARCIA, Raphel - RB - Carleton University - born 1999 (also 2019 Valour roster - 11 games) HIDALGO-MAZZEI, Aaron - LB - University of Saskatchewan - born 1997 SAGNO, Daniel - RB - Thompson Rivers University - born 1998 ...as did Caelan Budhoo - Cape Breton U Nikolas Baikas - U Sask who are not on the list. Also, last year's 1st round draft choice is not on the list this year: Yuba-Rayane Yesli - GK If Valour is looking for a GK you would think Yesli or Artemenko would be on their list of prospects. jonovision
I have no idea if this Esparza signing will turn out to be a good one, but for me it's a better bet to be using an international spot on a young American pro than 30+ year olds with a dozen or more clubs on their resume (Adam Mitter, Jose Galan, even Paolucci). Usually, players dont get paid for joining a national team. They can receive some bonuses when they qualify for a tournament or for other circumstances. Also, some sponsors can give money to these players K Edgar
