Canada vs New Zealand - Saturday, October 23 - 3pm Eastern / 12pm Pacific - Ottawa

The last time New Zealand beat Canada was 1987, before most of the players on the pitch were born.

Six years ago Canada tied the football Ferns 0-0 at Commonwealth in group play of the the 2015 World Cup.

How many players who were on that team are no longer with the team?

13 - Josée Bélanger, Lauren Sesslemann, Melissa Tancredi, Jonelle Filigno, Emily Zurrer, Carmelina Moscato, Robyn Gayle, Kaylyn Kyle, Rhiann Wilkinson, DIana Matheson, Selenia Iacchelli, Marie-Eve Nault and Karina Leblanc.

The 10 players still with the team six years later are Erin Mcleod, Kadeisha Buchanan, Allysha Chapman, Desiree Scott, Sophie Schmidt, Ashley Lawrence, Christine Sinclair, Jessie Fleming, Adrianna Leon and Stephanie Labbe.

The dozen players arriving in the past six years are Janine Beckie, Vanessa Gilles, Quinn, Deanne Rose, Nichelle Prince, Shelina Zadorsky, Jayde Riviere, Évelyne Viens, Kailen Sheridan, Jordyn Huitema, Gabrielle Carle and Marie Levasseur.

Five years ago the Ferns were ranked 18th but have slipped their form to #23. But considering Thursday the #1 US tied #18 South Korea at home (and broke their 22-game home winning streak), a good result comparatively indeed.

But to be fair with a bit of tempering. The Ferns just hired a new head coach who has only run a handful of sessions with the team, and they aren't at full-strength because of quarantine requirements (i.e. they brought in six unknown US college players and brought back into camp another two US college players). Google's result doesn't even have the names of a few of them.
