@lenny  @Obinna

Although Transfermarkt is a little off to say the least (Millar undervalued, Nelson overvalued is a great example) the fact that this Suriname squad has surpassed Honduras should scare us.

Everyone needs to give themselves "We are playing Honduras" level of expectations regarding this match.

For sure. The other thing is that Transfermarkt overinflates young players due to their potential.

Suriname have a veteran group, so players like Donk (and Hutchinson to be fair) are better than their valuations suggest.

Aside from the nerves of beating them, I am genuinely curious to see how they look. They are good on paper, but looking at some of the individual player pages on wiki, it doesn't seem like some of these guys are playing much despite being at good clubs.

Interesting that our value is so high and it's missing our second most valuable player in David ($33 M). So our squad value is actually about $162M+.

Crazy that even without David and Davies we would still be #3 in CONCACAF too.

I am assuming Leon Bailey is missing from the Jamaica valuation though. He's good for $30M I think.

If you add Bailey, would we still be ahead of Jamaica without Davies/David?

I’m assuming the $129m includes David. I don’t see how we have $60m excluding AD and JD.

Just estimating off the top of my head...

Larin 10, Osorio 6, Kaye 6, Cavallini 4.5, Eustaquio 4, Laryea 2.5, Piette 2, Johnston 2...that's 40ish

Hoilett 2, Arfield 2, Borjan 2, Crepeau 1.5, Buchanan 1, Nelson 1, St. Clair 1, Brault-Guillard 1, Miller 1, Guiterrez 1, Fraser 1, Cornelius 0.75, Hutchinson 0.5, Akindele 0.5, Wotherspoon 0.5...that's 16ish

So that's pretty close to 60M

When I have time I really want to look more in depth at Suriname. Right now I see guys playing in second division Croatia, India, Saudi Arabia and Trinidad. Three guys in Israel and Another in Cyprus. Two more (Breda and Almere city) are in the Dutch second division. I’m not saying they aren’t good but just put it in perspective.

They have a ~10 guys playing at clubs that would get them a look from Canada. I’m not saying all those guys would get called to a Canadian roster but they’re playing at high level clubs (relative to Canadian standards at least). More then a few are on the wrong side of 30 though.

Just look for yourself - it’s our 2021 squad, which doesn’t include David or even a value for Corbeanu. David and Davies alone are worth $115M together. If Millar and Corbeanu were valued appropriately we would be even higher.

Kaye and Osorio are the two most valuable domestics (Canada/ USA) in MLS. Larin is worth 12 M, Laryea is the most valuable RB in MLS. Our values are pretty high all around even excluding David/Davies.

I really can't wait for this game to happen so people (some) can stop worrying about Suriname.

Even so how can you not worry especially because we made the mistake of underestimating Haiti back in 2019 and look at how that turned out. My point being we cannot take Suriname lightly not even for a second.

And I really can't wait for this game to happen so I don't have to read any more posts about debating transfer values.

I'm looking forward to how we set up and play as a unit.  I'm curious about the CB pairing.

We play to our potential and we move on.

I wonder how big of a factor age will be for Suriname?

3 our of 7 forwards 29 years and older, 3 out of 7 defenders 30 years and older, and all 6 of their midfielders are 30 and over. Most of them have just gone through a full European season, plus they have more travel than we do and a more difficult match up leading up to their game with us.

I know it's a one-off, but maybe they'll unravel in the 2nd half as all those factors come into play.

Less than a week and a half away until our match. I mean knowing Herdman, when he unveils this squad for the Suriname match, we probably see most of our usuals but if we get new faces also for this match, then I can only imagine which new faces we see. Hopefully he just calls up the right guys or he just calls guys who are in form. We certainly do not need stars out of form and it ends up costing us the damn game.
