2021 CPL Season General News

I see the traditional Voyageurs welcome mat is out again. Nothing ever changes on here. Think this part in the link above might not be as clear cut as implied:

https://northerntribune.ca/york-united-zator-hamilton-loan/

... While Duane Rollins claimed that his move to York United was a ‘paper move’ and that he wasn’t expected to suit up for the Nine Stripes for the 2021 CPL season, Club President Angus McNab responded that the theory was absolute nonsense. ...

Loans often contain an option to buy at the end so the return of Dominic Zator doesn't conclusively prove anything either way:

Looks like Vasalunds IF gave him a full game against the bottom placed club about 10 days back (after only using him sporadically as a sub prior to that) then decided to pass.

It looks like he played 90 minutes in two shutout wins to close out the loan spell. The match before that he came on at 60 minutes while the team was trailing 3-0, and they went on the score 2 and nearly tie the match. They had better results with him in the lineup. Pure speculation, but he might have actually earned himself a permanent move if he hadn’t forced York’s hand by letting that nonsense about having no intention of playing for them leak.

What was the "nonsense" about not playing for them? I ask because I think it's a bad look for the league if a player has earned a contract abroad but the league pulls him back.

According to somebody on Reddit:

Suspect that's accurate but obviously we can't be 100% sure. We've been told that CanPL's business model involves selling players on and that money earned on a transfer fee gets ploughed back into the club's budget. Given the uncertainty related to the pandemic, Dominic Zator would be happy to have a two year contract in CanPL as an insurance policy that wouldn't necessarily be doable later after he went on trials overseas as CanPL clubs would be running out of cap space in the interim and York either gets one of the league's best players or some sort of transfer fee out of it.

Yeah, CPL jersey's on Monday, Canada vs Suriname on Tuesday, then I think it is the full "The Kickoff" schedule (that's the Winnipeg CPL bubble) on Wednesday. That's a good lineup, at least if Tuesday goes well.
