I can’t say I expected this and I didn’t know he was eligible.

I wouldn’t sweat it, look at his competition lol. Balgoun is being coveted for a reason.

So he was born here, left at 13/14 and signed with Sheffield.

I’ll say this, Dias, Flores and him leaving early for better soccer kinda sucks, but we’re clearly doing right if we’re producing kids who are clearly above the rest and are doing well at higher youth levels and becoming youth internationals for other countries.

until we play youth games we will see more duals play for other countries at the youth level. Given his scoring rate clearly England wants a look. Longterm the odds of him playing for England senior are the same as Dias playing for Portugal.

they both play positions that are currently occupied by top 10 players in the position, and they have depth. Anything can happen, but it’s unlikely they pass everyone. I would say this for 98% of prospects btw and same deal if Flores were to try to play for England or Portugal. The only difference is Flores us more likely to be good enough for Mexico, than Jebbison and Dias being good enough for England and Portugal.

not a knock on either, just that both are going through resurfaces/golden generations.

however the 2003 birth year in Canada looks very very nice.

Not soo bad of a situation. If we make the Olympics or put in some performances at the Gold Cup, he gets convinced and BAM! He is ours permanently when he files the one time switch.

How many world class players are ahead of him for England realistically, at striker ?

Kane, Rashford, Sterling, Abraham ?

Sorry I don’t know all their depth.

exicting though that he was called apparently he’s been excellent as of late.

This is one call up we can only embrace. He will get great experience here that will likely only serve him better for us down the line if he can turn into a championship/premiership level striker.

Even beyond the 10 or so choices in the premier league for England there are another 10 in the championship and elsewhere. He would have to turn into a player of such a high standard we would likely easier accept losing (if that is even a thing). Good luck to him, at the moment the odds are in our favour but even for us he needs to turn into a striker of Premiership standard to crack our team. Nice problem.

My thinking exactly and if Balgoun doesn’t switch its just one more ahead of him. Most England youth do have decent careers to my knowledge so if he can become even a borderline premier league striker it helps us so much.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Ollie Watkins and Eddie Nketiah are a few that come to mind.

add Patrick Bamford, Danny Ings, and Harvey Barnes. Then there's young guys like Eddie, Mason Greenwood, Rhian Brewster, and Noni Madueke

Forgot about Harvey Elliot.

yea I don’t Jebbison’s odds but like that he was called.

do we know if he’s played for our youth before ?

He's not a pure striker...but more so a winger. However I did mention Barnes, so I'm correcting myself right now lol

I've never seen this guy play so I'm not getting too worked up about him, but I remember similar excercises of people listing all the guys ahead of other duals while people tried to convince themselves that there is no way the Canadian guy could crack the more established soccer nation's lineup. Guys like Tomori, JDG2, and Cristante. It happens for every dual, including for some who do end up getting away. So just a note of caution I suppose.

Fair but I think at the time the odds just favoured Cristante, JDG2 and even Tomori a lot more. JDG2 wouldn’t make Holland’s bench for their squad with this group.

I didn't realize he was rated this highly, I must admit I've never seen him play a full 90 (Only seen some highlights here and there). Good for him though, I know that he does want to represent Canada in the future and the task of breaking into that English team especially as a striker will be a tall task. Even if he was playing for Sheffield's first team every game it'd be tough to break in.

I'd imagine Kane, Calvert-Lewin, Watkins, Ings, Bamford, Wilson, and Vardy are all ahead of him.

Not to mention the young strikers like Abraham, Nketiah, Brewster, Balogun, and Solanke.

It's great though because this will raise his profile and hopefully he can end up playing with the 1st team of either Sheffield or another club on loan in the 2nd or 3rd division similar to Liam Millar.

How do you know he wants to play for us ???? 😂 just curious if you have a direct source to re-assure us.
