Canadians Abroad Dec 4th to 10th

Here's a video update about Canadian centre-back Doneil Henry of the K League's Suwon Bluewings, including what it's been like to live in South Korea during the pandemic and keeping himself malleable as a player.

Shameless plug: I happen to have a new book out about a season spent following a club in the K League, called Who Ate All the Squid?: Football Adventures in South Korea.

Kind of hard to blame them when they’re doing very well in the league for a newly promoted team. You’d think they’d try to get a bit more out of their investment though. Hopefully at least a loan in January or something.

So it could be a mistake, but Livescore, flashscore and whoscored all show Borges playing leftback in  today's game.

However, Leuven twitter doesn't have him listed, so probably not the case.

There is also confusion of Forges facebook page if he is playing or not.

He's not in the squat at all.

Morning games for Dec 8, 2020 - updates to come as they happen.

WALES

[JDP] Cody Ruberto re-emerges from the cold having missed out on the last 10 or so, coming on in the 55th for Cefn Druids today against Caernarfon.

  • FT: Cody sees the final 35' today in a 2-1 loss, in a return to the team having not played since their season opener on Sep. 20.

Games for Dec. 9, 2020 - updates to come as they happen.

DENMARK

[NBL] Easton Ongaro has the start for Vendsyssel at home against Esbjerg.

  • FT: Easton goes the full 90' in a 2-1 loss - not all bad for Easton though, as he bags his first goal in Danish football!

ITALY

[SrC] Axel Desjardins is the backup for Novara away at Piacenza.

  • FT: Axel goes unused in a 3-3 draw.

JAPAN

[J3] Noah Kenshin Browne drops to the bench for Kamatamare Sanuki against Cerezo Osaka U23 on MD32.

  • having started the last 15 matches in a row, Noah is out of the starting XI for the first time since MD16, likely due to having played 71' at the weekend. However, the two strikers in the lineup this morning haven't played alongside each other since MD13, so it may also be (though unlikely) that Browne has fallen out of favour. This would be the second time this season that he would be frozen out of the matchday 18, if he were to spend significant time out of the lineup - with the first having come between MD9 and MD16.
  • FT: Noah sees the whole second half in a 0-0 draw against 17th-placed Cerezo, indicating this was likely just a fitness issue. The draw keeps Kamatamare 3 points ahead of Cerezo in the J3 League table.

NORWAY

[ELT] Simon Thomas is the backup for Sarpsborg at home against a defensively-solid Sandefjord.

  • FT: Simon goes unused, as the game ends in a predictable dead-rubber 0-0 draw.

UEFA

[UCL] Phonzie is back in action, as he has the start for Bayern at home against Lok Moscow.

  • FT: Phonzie sees 70', in a 2-0 win. Seems to have been highly rated by most outlets/football scoring apps.

Games for Dec. 10, 2020 - updates to come as they happen.

NORWAY

[Eliteserien] Sam Adekugbe suffered an injury last time out against Rosenborg, and thus doesn't make the Valerenga squad for today's match against 7th-placed Viking.

  • Valerenga need another 4 points from their final two games of the season to mathematically guarantee European football next season, but are also currently in the best position to get Europe, starting today in 3rd place on 52 points. There are, however, a number of clubs who could overtake, based on the number of games to be made up due to having been postponed originally by Covid cases within clubs.
  • FT: VIF draw 2-2 against Viking, taking the European fight to the final day of the season.

UEFA

[UEL] Scott Arfield has the start for Rangers away at Lech Poznan.

  • Rangers could top Group D, as long as they get an equal or better result than Benfica, since they lead SLB on H2H.
  • FT: Scott goes the full 90' as Rangers top Group D with a 2-0 win against Lech.

[UEL] Jonathan David has the start for Lille today away at Celtic.

  • Lille could top their own group, Group H, with either a win against Celtic (to top outright) OR Milan dropping points their match against Sparta Prague (to top on H2H).
  • FT: Jo goes the full 90' with some nice involvement in the build-up to Lille's first in a 3-2 loss to Celtic that sees them finish runners-up in Group H.

[UEL] Milan Borjan has the start and the armband for Crvena zvezda away at Slovan Liberec.

  • Zvezda are already high and dry in second, and can't take first due to losing 2-0 in the away leg of their H2H matchup against Hoffenheim.
  • FT: Milan captains the side to another clean sheet, as this one ends in a dead-rubber 0-0 draw.
