He doesn’t qualify for us

Are you sure , according to this he’s trained with canadian U15-16 teams ?
The multiple-eligible Owolabi-Belewu has trained with Canada's U15, U16 and U19 national teams in the past and was called up for a Nigeria U17 training camp last year but did not attend.”

It's confusing language but it seems like he was born in London, On which would make him eligible if it holds up

He does have a CSA profile, but his last name is misspelled, making it difficult to find.

https://www.canadasoccer.com/profile/?id=4444

The profile also confirms that he was born in London, but unfortunately it's the one on the other side of the pond, not our one.

It's very unfortunate that he's not eligible to play for us competitively, but it's a good sign to see a Canadian academy produce a highly touted centre-back. Hopefully there are similar prospects in the pipeline that are actually eligible for us!

weird...I'm no immigration expert, but it seems like he was here long enough to get a passport?

He said he doesn’t qualify cause he never got his residency. I’m no expert either but I have a friend who’s been here for years who played at Tulsa, but also doesn’t qualify at the moment as he never got his residency

Why would  the CSA scout and train make him part of group/profile if he wasn’t eligible? Also Jordan if there was a way to make him eligible would he consider Canada, fifa changes eligible rules from time to time.

Usually it takes 5 years before you can become a citizen, if he moved to canada at 13 and is now gone at 18, he might not have put in enough time eh? And its not automatic, you would still have to file paperwork etc.  Some people file ASAP (Davies), but my wife is on 14 years and she might never become a citizen....which brings up all sort of angry scenarios in my head, imagining my son growing into the lanky CB canada has been waiting on but having him defect to another country.   And then have him go on foreign sports shows with a fake accent, rubbing my nose in it.

If he was with CDN youth teams and living here, with an academy, there is probably a resonable expectation that he would continue on and get a passport.  We all know what happens if a guy gets left off a u-15 youth team...(he'll go on to rep england and be MrKs fav ex patriot).

True, but that doesn't rule out that there is a chance he is eligible for Canada. If TFC signed Ugbo 6 months ago it would say English forward.

The Canadian Soccer website says he moved here when he was 13. He then moved to SPAL a few months after his 18th birthday. It's close. I'm not an expert on immigration laws but since he is back in Canada after leaving for around a year and a half he should still be able to get his Canadian Citizenship.

This board should hire an immigration expert or have one on retainer.
