Match Thread: Island Games - August 25, 2020 - Pacific v Valour

Match is at 8pm ET on One Soccer.

Important matchup in the battle for one of the top 4 spots.

Pacific are coming off a heart breaking loss against Forge on Saturday, conceding in injury time.

Valour tied York 0-0.

One has to think that if this match has a winner, that team has punched its ticket to the next round.

Edit: I thought Pacific was on 3 points, not 2. Still, if they win tomorrow I think they get through. Looking at the various scenarios at the link below, perhaps I'm wrong, but as close to a must-win as we've had so far for a team that a lot of people were penciling in for 3rd place.

If Valour wins, agreed. That would put them only one point behind Forge with three games to play and everyone else having to play catch up. If Pacific wins they're in third and Valour is in 4th but it's really tight.

At this point any match not involving Forge or Cavalry is a must win for those involved.

Even Atletico and Edmonton are still technically in it.

As an FYI, there has been a fair bit of lightning in the area today (I live a few KM’s from UPEI). I just cancelled my son’s U13 team practice for safety reasons.  Depending on whether or not it clears up, this evening, the game could be delayed or rescheduled.

TBH, and this is completely selfish, I would be very happy if they rescheduled. I am painting my house tonite and was bummed I am missing it!

Gale had hinted that Bouka-Moutou might be available to start at left back for this match. I'm disappointed that neither he nor Levis are healthy enough to dress for this match.

thats the risk when you bring a player over 30 who played very little minutes past few seasons..but I guess thats also a reason they were able to get him

Bad version of Cebara and a striker playing left back. This is going to be a long night for Valour.

Pacific have no fear of getting caught on the counter.  None at all.

Neither of these teams are playing well. Valour, who have the least on field talent of any team in the league by a fair margin, can't win a game with a mediocre effort. Pacific probably can.

I feel like there are goals in this for Pacific. We just need to clean up our passing

It was always going to be difficult for Valour to score a goal this year when they don't have any strikers on the roster, but when the passing is this bad it looks really bleak.

Maybe valour should play with 3 Cb or move Gutierrez to wb. And play dyer you’d figure dyer would be an automatic starter

Pena is not the third string left back. He is a right side winger who ended up playing right back last year when Garcia got injured.  Gale did not sign a natural left back this year to back up ABM  and that error is on him.

Levis was fine cover at left back. It was a bad stroke of luck for both ABM and Levis to both go down injured in the first 3 games.

Is Garcia injured to?

the team drafted a left back last year in the usport draft but decided against using him and the other picks they’ve made in the past two seasons. Bad asset management.
