Match Thread: Island Games - August 23, 2020 - Atletico Ottawa v Edmonton

Match is at 1pm ET on One Soccer and CHCH.

Atletico will try to bounce back from a 4-0 loss midweek. 

Edmonton have lost both their matches (against the 2 frontrunners)

1-0 early for Ottawa.  That didn’t take long.

Zetterberg is meh... Boakai rightfully benched... Didic out... midfield can't build up and service Ongaro...

Edmonton is disappointing...

 

Loving the ball movement from Ottawa and the brand of football they are trying to play, just need consistency, not make major mistakes and keep it up for 90.

So far, their Internationals have had the biggest impact on their team. Acuna is just so clinical and pushes the rest of the team to play better. Neufville is fantastic. 

We would need a thread to discuss the internationals in this league because they are underwhelming for the most part. We need them to push Canadians upwards, not the other way around.

Been thinking about if you take those 2 reds away they could be pushing for 1st place right now.

Ottawa are the most likely to join Cavalry and Forge in the upper tier of the league. They play great football and are a few pieces away to make their team a force in the league.

With their connections and expertise, they are the most likely to make their international signings count the most...as we can see with Acuna and Neufville.

They were pushed around for most of the Valour match even before they went down to 10 men. Didn't see their other game.

They will in time. Not sure they will make the second phase this year. With Atletico's backing this team will just improve. They had a few bigger pieces reportedly from abroad that just couldn't come in due to covid. They could have been further forward already.

I know they just scored, but... FC Edmonton looks slow.  They take too many touches with the ball, especially in the final third.

Atletico simply dont have the depth to go far enough and in this case see out games. 

So glad Boakai finally showed up. He has to be more than just an impact sub though.

Still fancy both to be bottom 3.
