Match Thread: Island Games - August 15, 2020 - York 9 v Atletico Ottawa

Match is at Noon ET on One Soccer (tape delay at 1pm on CBC).

Expansion side Atletico will make their CPL debut. 

York 9 has made some interesting moves and has much of its core back.

The pressure is on Y9 not to lose to a new team regularly predicted to be last place while being hyped as a potential #1. What if Francisco Acuña is a beast in this league?

Ottawa have some great pieces. Depends if they can gel quick enough. York have consistency with some extra flair. Should be a good match and looking forward to seeing the new players.

Seen acuna play last year live. He can be a top mf in this league capable of controlling the gamE

He will be but the problem is that he's not a goal scorer like a Valeri or Higuain. Someone needs to finish the chances he'll create.

Hard to prepare for a team you've never seen before, AO will have the advantage early knowing how Y9 want to play.  York need to boss the game early like Cavalry did last night and not give AO the chance to get settled.

National Acadian Day AND the Ottleti opener? What a perfect day coming up!

No idea what to expect of this team, but frankly, just having an Ottawa club play any soccer is more than what I expected 8 months ago today.

Didn't know Elton John was at Atletico Ottawa. Thought he was solid for Halifax last year.

Pretty disappointed about Petrasso and Manella. Less surprised Petrasso is injured again. I hope he is back for the next game and it is not another year of frustration. 

Arnone as DM, interesting. Line up still looks strong.

GGGOOOAAALLL for Ottletico! Neufville with the run down the left side and cut back to Kourouma who slots it in. I almost thought he was going to flub it!

Kapor has been impressive so far for Ottawa, definitely brings some toughness at the back. Nice to see him play after all these years of hearing about him from European matches.

Ugh... York 9 hasn’t been crisp in possession, and they’ve not really caused Ottawa much trouble at the back. It was an even first half, I’m not really too surprised though that Ottawa is 1-0 up given the flow of play.

balanced half but atletico get their first goal in history at the end..kourouma from neufville..weak defending..york looks very far from a top team..players and coach gotta step up..mista looks like the quiet coach who observes and lets players play

What an awful half.

Vasconcelos so far has been a massive disappointment. Done nothing for us. Rivero had one good chance but hasn't done much besides that. The midfield has lost control and we've been relying on counters.

Telfer has been our best player, but we seriously crave for creativity. I hope Petrasso can fix this mess when he's ready to play.

Acuna is head and shoulders above everyone else on the pitch. Well deserved lead. 

Neufville is a great addition to the league. You can see his youth pedigree but also sometimes in his decision making why he dropped down a few leagues. Quality addition though.

I thought he was one of York's better players. Doing a lot of work back. Think arnone is probably the weak spot in the middle.

York9 looks like I’m watching last year’s team. Lol who is the coach Jimmy still ? This team ain’t going anywhere with this guy as coach I’m sorry. Hopefully I’m made to eat my words but I’m not betting on it!
