Not only that, for a team that will play in Europa League (again).

True. From the interview I read, though, it seemed like Egypt was watching, but were content to watch for now. Basically, as a top 5 African nation, they aren't switching anything up player-wise unless the team wasn't performing.

His form (or the coach's view of him) seems to have dropped somewhat, he is spending his time between the bench of the main team and getting playing time with the reserves in the 4th division.

He wasn't called into the Egypt U23 squad this month (it was a domestic squad it seems, so makes sense):

He still has The Egyptian National Team very much on his mind.

He was heading out on loan at one point(Switzerland if I recall)  and it fell through

As reported by Canucks Abroad, he will be loaned to St. Pauli in the 2. Bundesliga. Good move I think.

He may face Scott Kennedy  ( @Ian Kennedy ) later this month.

Apologies for not reading previous pages that might state the answer to this question - but does he have to file a switch to represent Canada?

He played in U20 African Cup of Nations so yeah he’d have to file a switch. He’s one of the longest of long shots anyways though IMO. He clearly wants to play for Egypt, and if he ever reaches a level where he could play for us, then he’d be good enough to play for them as well. He’ll likely get capped by Egypt very soon I’d think.

I want to say also I think he has more competition for the striker spot with Canada than Egypt at the moment. Egypt keeps cycling through guys I don't think they've found their main striker to work with Salah.

Egypt is his number one option and wants to play Olympics for them.  We will see if it pans out for him with the senior squad but it could be a possibility that Canada becomes his only option.  But as @VinceA said above its not really a spot we need at the moment.  In a couple years if Egypt isn't in the cards for him and he is still playing at a decent level then I would welcome him into our player pool for depth.

This isn't a case of Tomori where we lose out in a quality player for a position that we desperately need.

His loan seems to have started well!

[2BL] Omar Marmoush* has the start for St. Pauli at home against Holstein Kiel.

Does anyone have video of the goal?

Thanks! That was very well struck; that takes skill! A beauty. :D

I scored a few of those (not struck first time but from the same angle) in house league and I rarely got to play up top. I dunno why I always see players hitting it right at the goalie from there.

What I'm saying is call me up dammit!

Another Marmoush goal:

A great goal from distance.

Scott Kennedy ( #24) is the one who starts following him before another defender runs in to block Marmoush. The two defenders really make a screen so the keeper doesn't see what is going on.

I think Kennedy had to be a little faster there.

https://www.kingfut.com/2021/01/20/omar-marmoush-reflects-life-st-pauli/

Marmoush is eligible for the Canadian national team as he is also a Canadian citizen, and when asked about having both passports, Marmoush replied:

“My parents worked in Canada for six years and got passports after four.

“I’ve been to Ottawa a few times, but I’ve always lived in Egypt and I’m 100 percent Egyptian,” he added.

1) It's clear where his heart lies

2) Despite having a Canadian passport, it's not clear if he fulfills FIFA residency requirements (but KingFut articles are not always accurate). Some other guys who have played for us don't seem to have fulfilled the FIFA residency requirement either like Juan Cordova & Massih Wassey.

If he lived in Egypt his whole life, doesn't that mean his parents were citizens prior to his birth? I may misunderstand, but I thought the was a clear path to FIFA eligibility.

His parents lived in Ottawa and became citizens. It's not clear if they became citizens before or after his birth. They could have been living in Canada while Omar was living with relatives or grandparents in Egypt.

When you apply to become a citizen you can apply for your minor children to become citizens too; I'm not sure what the residency requirements are for minor children. If there is a requirement, I'm also not sure if proof of residence is required for the children.

Too bad he has expressed little desire to join Canada.  He seems to be doing quite well at St. Pauli in B2.

Hoilett had a decent loan spell to St Pauli early in his career.  However, Marmoush is also 3 or 4 years older than Hoilett was when he joined St Pauli on loan.

Egypt U24 had (are still having?) a training camp in Cairo.

https://www.efa.com.eg/NewsDetails?k1=M2Xqhqcc80dCf2iR2vj8dQ==

Since the camp has no matches, simply training, they declined to fly Marmoush all the way out to Cairo for this. Better for him to remain with his club.
However they reconfirmed that he is still very much in their plans:
https://www.kingfut.com/2021/03/24/egypt-u23-why-marmoush-not-included/

It seems like they will have another camp in June before the final squad is announced on June 30th.

Just to clarify @jordan 's post, Marmoush has been summoned to a U-24 prep camp :

https://www.efa.com.eg/NewsDetails?k1=GRat5EkBHLsDXCRPYLzlww==

The final squad for the Olympics will be named on June 30th.

An editorial from earlier this month that was not kind to Marmoush:

https://www.mopo.de/sport/fc-st-pauli/-omar-ist-halt-omar--darum-ist-marmoush-noch-nicht-reif-fuer-die-bundesliga--38369540

Basically it talks about how his emotions can get the best of him and about his inconsistent play; the premise of it is that he's not ready for a return to the 1. Bundesliga.
