He's a '97 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Sturing

Made the 50-man U23 Olympic Qualifying Provisional Roster

All his matches for Netherlands youth teams seem to be friendlies:
http://www.transfermarkt.us/frank-sturing/nationalmannschaft/spieler/302611/verein_id/16342
He is therefore not cap-tied to us and did not file his one-time-switch

Plays for NEC Nijmegen in the Netherlands 2nd division, known as the Eerste Divisie  http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019–20_Eerste_Divisie

Wasn't included in their gameday squad for their last two games:

Feb 21st: http://keukenkampioendivisie.nl/wedstrijden/2019-2020-go-ahead-eagles-vs-n-e-c
Feb 14th: http://keukenkampioendivisie.nl/wedstrijden/2019-2020-n-e-c-vs-helmond-sport/

but was listed as a sub 3 matches ago
Feb 7th: http://keukenkampioendivisie.nl/wedstrijden/2019-2020-telstar-vs-n-e-c/

Although 2 years older than Ferdi Kadıoğlu, his time in both the youth setup and the senior team at NEC Nijmegen overlaps.

Does anybody know if he is the cousin/half-brother/relative of Kadıoğlu? Two Dutch-Canadians in the youth setup at the same club in the Netherlands, both born in the Netherlands in towns only 25km apart from each other - there must be some connection right?!?

There's no connection as far as I know as 1 is Turkish and 1 is Dutch. My only guess about Frank is a Canadian mother. I tried to find something about him but it only says he comes from a football family and that both his older brothers used to play. Nothing anywhere about his Canadian ties.

Ferdi's mother is Dutch Canadian.

An article from yesterday with some interesting tidbits:

https://www.forzanec.nl/nieuws/nieuws/article/sturing-gaat-vol-voor-interlandcarriere-met-canada.html

  • Sturing initiated contact with the CSA, they have been watching his matches from the beginning of the season
  • His father was born in Canada but moved to the Netherlands at a young age
  • He still hasn't received his Canadian passport. He'll need to get it before March 14 to be eligible to play.

I would have bet money that this was Frank Sturing's father, who was apparently born in Canada:  https://www.transfermarkt.us/edward-sturing/profil/trainer/597

But this article says they aren't related. https://www.omroepgelderland.nl/nieuws/2304790/NEC-verdediger-Sturing-verlengt-contract

Weird, they even have the same agent and have similar features.

Sturing if he is a dual national, then as far as a nationality switch, it is doable. I mean he has made Canada's provisional roster for the men when it comes to trying to qualify for the Olympics in Tokyo next summer at least from what I've read.

Article in Dutch, Google translate will convert if you have it.

He is training with his old club and hoping to be picked up by another team in the Netherlands.

Also mentions he received his Canadian passport in January of this year and is eligible for Canada through his Father.

Hopefully lands somewhere around a reasonable level soon.

We have hit a bit of a roadblock recently with young defenders not getting minutes. Bassong is still unattached I think? Montgomery yet to break through at dallas. Miller permanently benched and Waterman unlucky.

We need a breakout somewhere!

Bassong is still with Unattached FC.

I'm betting the breakout will be Scott Kennedy in Germany.

The CPL has a fair number of starting Canadians.

CB’s take longer to develop.

Henry is playing every minute in Korea.

We’re adequate for now
