From reading this it would appear he is eligible: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_nationality_law

specifically: “Children born overseas are Canadian citizens by descent if either parent is a citizen by birth or naturalization in Canada.[9] Citizenship by descent is limited to only one generation born outside of the country,[10] other than children or grandchildren of members of the Canadian Armed Forces.[11]

That's Canadian nationality law, not FIFA law. Being a Canadian citizen alone is not enough to be eligible.

I have zero concerns about his eligibility.

I have zero concern about Ike Ugbo's eligibility because he played youth competitive matches for England as well. This means his eligibility for Canada had to be verified by FIFA (and not just the CSA) during the one-time switch. I think he had only lived in Canada for about 4½ years but the rules change made it so it was fewer years of residence if you starting living there before age 10 ( only 3 years ).

The relevant documents are here:

I hope so but then there is the case of Cordova. How was he ever eligible? No one can answer that.

Yeah.  The CSA has called up ineligible players before.  Tam Nsaliwa in 2008 for starters.  Let's hope they know something we don't.

His dad is a Canadian citizen who was born in Chile and lived in Canada.

"Uní has ties with the North American country on his father's side. “The whole family from my dad, grandparents, cousins live there. For that reason I can have Canadian nationality, I have gone twice, I did an English course, they taught me at school, I handle English well ”. (google translate)

Cordova never had to file a one-time-switch and only the CSA looked at his eligibility, not FIFA, and I think they got it wrong (under the new rules too). Cordova is a Canadian citizen but NOT eligible to play for us by any of the stated FIFA eligibility requirements.

That doesn't make him eligible. His dad would have to be born here.

Not if his son was born between 1977 and 2009.

"Persons born outside Canada between February 15, 1977, and April 16, 2009

During that period, a person born outside Canada to a Canadian parent was automatically a Canadian citizen regardless of whether they were born outside Canada after the first generation."

We're talking FIFA rules, not Canadian citizenship rules. Interesting to know none the less!

Holy 💩!

Cordova is Canadian. He has a Canadian passport. Nobody is disputing that point.

@CanadaFan123 is simply stating that he is not eligible to play for Canada per FIFA rules.

Watching some of his higlights on youtube...he looks like an Akinola type striker - very athletic, pacey and powerful finisher. Might work really well in a combo with David

He's taller than Akinola though so he's more of the full package with the aerial threat. I see him more as a more athletic and direct Larin with more upside. He definitely gives us something we don't really have at the moment! A very welcome addition.

Ike Ugbo came on for Genk vs West Ham m. 88, just after his team tied the match. Since I get all Europa League I'm going to go back and cue it now....

Soucek own goal.

Plays target and controls a ball in the box, looks for the pass. Genk pressures them. My commentators immediately explain he was loaned repeatedly by Chelsea, not sure if they got his purchase right.

Genk looking for the win and in possession. Has another nice touch in attack and it seems cut by a hand, no call. Beside Genk's other striker who's massive (Onuachu, one of those Nigerians ;) ) he's quick, mobile, and plays okay back to defenders.

My 1st report on his 3 touches.
