Interesting  quote in the article,   "We had good talks with him and he accepts the project we proposed. He knows what to do so that this new deal is beneficial for both himself and the club."

He made $175,000.00 last year, he was out of contract so probably signed for less, even at $150,000.00 probably more then he could get elsewhere.

Not much for your avg footballer eh when you think they stop “working” at max 36-38 years old (if they’re that good and healthy). At $150k that’s what some people make in 2 years. Enough time to at least pay off a nice house in Montreal.

TVA Sports is reporting the end of the journey between Bacary Sagna and the Montreal Impact. They mention Bac’s Instagram account which lists his former clubs and dates spent there with Montreal now having an end date of “December 2019” followed by a “Next” underneath. The team is having some holes to fill in defence with Cabrera, Lovitz gone and Brault-Guillard not signed.

Thanks for an update. Perhaps this increases the chance of a ZBG return?

Interesting that Sagna is now leaving with former France teammate Henry managing....

Announced on his Instagram.

Seriously WTF are the Impact DOING!?!? They do realize they are playing in CCL this spring and their schedule will be compact? They haven’t brought in much yet let go of plenty.

This is so typical of them to penny pinch especially with older guys just to lowball them. They gave Fanni the screws at the end of last season then look desperate signing him late in the season. They need to realize if they want quality, no matter the age, it comes at a price. Stop being so frugal.

Their team of the decade snubbed him as it would prove he is right in asking whatever he wanted, yet a guy like Borjan who’s played less and been there less, was put on their bench?

Bac - one of my favourite players ever! Sad we won’t have you in 🇨🇷 Here’s looking back...

IF they're signing ZBG to a new contract, this makes sense.

Otherwise its like you say, the only goal here was to save some dimes.  That isn't the problem in itself, its normal in business, and soccer is a business.  The issue here, and with the Impact, is *the way they go about their business*.  It would seem they do it using the same approach as car salesmen.   Basically they're not affraid and don't think twice about offending the person in question.  They'll put a ridiculous offer on the table thinking the person will come back to the table.  Seems Sagna didn't go for it and chose to end the discussion himself while going public with his refusal.  Hopefully the Impact negotiaters learn from this failed approach.

Sagna enjoyed his time there, but not enough to work for less than he's worth.  He doesn't need the Impact, but the Impact definitely need a RB.

This would make perfect sense, Sagna guiding him for a year for him to succeed him. I don't see ZBG breaking through at Lyon this year, he certainly has time on his side. Another year loan makes sense for all parties. A year under Henry, increased playing time/experience and likely their number one RB.

Could also be Sagna wants to go rather than Impact not renewing. Maybe he wants to retire in France? Maybe he and Henry don't get on? If he ends up at another MLS team then I think people can be annoyed at Montreal. Nothing to see or know yet.

Impact have 1 international spot left. And looking at players on the team right noe, it's hard to see which international player they could transfer. If they cut any player, they would be on the hook in the salary budget, unless the Impact had an option on Novillo, but it didn't sound like that. Camacho coming back was a surprise.
