Match Thread: August 10, 2019 - HFX Wanderers v Cavalry

Cavalry have won all 3 previous meetings.

Cavs will play B squad again in HFX. Massive schedule congestion for them, and they have done a ton of traveling last few days. HFX could take this one.

This is a great showcase for the league to have on CBC. The best intimate stadium atmosphere in the league. And the best team in the league.

Agree! It’s a shame Cavs will be sitting a lot of their quality.

Match ends 0-0.

Pretty entertaining 0-0 draw. Cavs lacked creativity sitting their entire starting midfield. Oxner is definitely the starter for HFX what a game from him.

Yea agreed Oxner is 'the man'. 

Other thoughts: Both teams had their chances. Either could have broken the draw several times. My ole pal Skublack looked like a deer in headlights. Nice to have zoom back the lad can run!

Was one of the more entertaining 0-0 draws I have watched. 

Nice send off for Schaale at the end - he came over to the kitchen and we did a viking clap. He will be missed.......

Who would have thought that Oxner, a player seemed to just be a token local backup keeper, would beat out a T&T international.  That’s what this league is all about - great stuff.

Worth noting that Mauro Biello was at this match today. Wonder who he was taking a peek at. Chrisnovic Nsa was playing RB today and had an immense game - wonder if he might get a look for the CMNT.

Fun match all together though. Probably one of the most exciting 0-0 draws I've watched. Good showcase for the league on CBC.

Maybe Biello will on the U-23 team and is scouting youngsters for the olympic qualifying.  Skublak always looks like handful and simmons had some nice passing today.

Biello watched HFX train yesterday as well. I’m guessing U23 squad and eligible players Langwa Sinmons Skublak and Nsa.

It’s still amazing to me that Christian Oxner likely wouldn’t have had a professional career in soccer if it weren’t for this league. If Halifax has a hidden gem like him, you’d have to imagine there’s many more communities across the country where guys just need an opportunity.

Ongaro in Edmonton, Attardo in WPG, Pebble in Calgary, so many good stories like this.  Whether these guys can take these chances and turn them into a solid carer is a tougher row to hoe.  But so far the CPL is finding kids that no one else was even looking at.
