CanadaFan123
If you want any shot at international football join one of 3 clubs. Oh, you’re just 14 and from Winnipeg? Too bad. What a sham. Why not just be honest and call it a MLS academy camp? Using this selection process they would be missing Millar, David, Davies etc. A sure fire way to build us as a soccer nation - let’s ignore 99% of our talent. Kent
And the MLS teams are now all in USSDA leagues, which means it will make it even harder (at least in Ontario, it's already been like this for years for Montreal and Vancouver) to compare players from outside the MLS academies to those that aren't in academy setups. Hopefully CPL can one day rectify this "3 team all-star team" problem by at the very least getting more academy systems out there and greatly increase the geographical footprint of pro academy set ups. Maybe the CSA would be comfortable with at least scouting those teams as well. Plus, with CPL teams actually playing Canadian players in large numbers, it might be more attractive to some players than MLS academies, so you might not get cases of players avoiding them when they already live in the area. Dominic94
It’s pretty disgusting like we talk about missing guys well let’s be real here we probably have 5-6 guys across the country at least who are being left out because they are at the academy. No way do those 3 teams carry our best 30 players. Junkie
Reign
How do selections for ages like this work ? Does the CSA actually have the scouts to identify the young talent around the country ?
Ivan
I realize this is a thread for 2004s, but it is worth noting that Josh Gordon, a 2005, was also called to the U15 team for the August championships. Edit: I see Northvansteve flagged him in the 2005 thread. Apologies. Edited July 22, 2019 by Ivan Northvansteve

Buchta
Jeronimo Sabbatasso (born in Buenos Aires in 2004) is playing for the U17 team of CA Independiente. He was called up to a Canadian U15 training camp in 2019. https://canadasoccer.com/profile/?id=6566&teamId=2073 Noah Abatneh plays for Lazio U17. He has been on the bench a few times in September/October. The season was put on hold (I think) because of Covid back in October. El Diego
This was the age group for TFC (u15) that won the DA Playoffs in 2019 -- pretty sure all those TFC guys listed in the OP were on that team. I think Gabriel Pellegrino was also on that TFC team before he moved to Europe. Finals are up on YouTube if anyone wants to take a look. Pretty exciting game generally, but it is still most definitely youth level soccer: DA Playoffs: U-15 Championship Final - Toronto FC vs. LAFC - YouTube

CanadaFan123
One would hope, but not hold their breath, that the CSA will not rest on their laurels given the cancellation of the u17 World Cup in 2021. Even with a cycle last time round we still missed out on Corbeanu and Mitrovic. In 2017 we missed out on Akinola and Yankov. Pretty inexcusable to miss out on guys at the U17 level who are in the conversation for your MNT just a year or two later. It seems we have a deep 2004 pool so this problem could arise yet again. Hopefully ID camps continue nonetheless and the one good thing will be that we don't have to cut anyone and hurt feelings. Dominic94

Kids develop at this age a very different speeds. Some emerge and then fade fast into oblivion; others emerge later but then surge into prominence. Who would have thought in the summer of 2018 that two years later David would go for 25 million. Pretty much no one. And then during the same period Tabla to go from Barcelona to being benched back with the Impact. And these kids were already older than 15 or 16 at the beginning of this period. Plus Akinola choose the US. He wasn’t missed by Canada. Free kick and Dominic94

There is a poster here who had said that David looked special and would chase Phonzie. Guys on the NT have said David could end up better.

Another guy to keep an eye on would be Luca Accetolla. Wore the Captain's armband and the #10. Looked active and took all the corners for TFC. Doesn't have the physically imposing size of Mbongue, or the pure skill of Marshall-Rutty, but was an active, very involved player. He and Pellegrino (who went off injured with TFC down 2-0) seemed to be the midfield engines, but I would have to say Accetolla was the more impressive player of the two in this game. I also liked keeper Dino Bontis' game. Not a big kid, but good and confident with the ball at his feet. MM3/MM2/MM and scooterlawrence5
