Match Thread: July 17, 2019 - York9 FC v Pacific FC

Recommended Posts

Going to our first York9 match tonight. We're SSH's for ForgeFC but will miss that game to see our son and his team (U10) accompany the teams onto the field for the anthem. Should be interesting...will our kid sing O Canada, start to laugh, or run away? As long as he doesn't just cry! Oh yeah, hoping to see a good match too. York's playing better recently so would be nice to see them win.

The people are usually late but it’s 6:30 and the stands are emptier than I remember than being at this time. Wouldn’t be surprised if we are below 2k this time :(

We need to stop programming these at the same time as Toronto FC.

Quite a frustrating half from a PFC fan perspective. Firstly, because aside from one moment of brilliance it was pretty even, and probably the most stable defensively they have been, but still losing.  Secondly, because the set pieces continue to be pathetic, and not at all threatening. Thirdly, because of some terrible (lack of) movement and decisions with the ball. Blasco has been awful.

Hopefully the league will get the message on that. Compare and contrast with a week ago against the Impact:

and also some of the recent good weather weekend games. They can draw a crowd under the right circumstances but they need to schedule intelligently.

Got to see my son and his U10 team lead the players on to the field. Just looked at the game replay on One Soccer and he's there for almost a second with Kyle Porter! Anyway, on to the game...thought it was entertaining, first goal by York and the one by Pacific were really quality goals. Telfer and Aparicio stood out for York. Did not like the track between the pitch and stands but strangely the field itself didn't appear as small as it actually is. Not many in the supporter's section but they tried their best and I have to congratulate the trumpet players as they seemed to never stop.

It was only about an hour's drive to get to the parking for the stadium so York9 matches are relatively easy to get to from Barrie. In a completely unscientific poll, not many of the parents of my son's team new much about the league at all. Couldn't name the teams, which cities they play in, even the name of the league. "Pacific" was thought to mean somewhere in BC so must be Vancouver? But, the families enjoyed the match so maybe will be back for more games? Maybe we'll go to the next Forge away game at York.

Great to to hear you and your son had a good time. Not surprised at all that most of the parents on your son's team hadn't heard of the league, that's the vibe I get from the vast majority of my soccer-playing friends, I'm usually the one they first hear it from.

To really reach the majority of soccer fans across the country, I still think and hope that CPL has got to get its game of the month onto TSN eventually rather than CBC. There are a lot of sporting events outside of soccer that I wouldn't hear about normally that I hear about simply from the commercials on during a TFC game on TSN or smth.

And what you said about Pacific also reaffirms for me how stupid the CPL marketing team was to not include the city names in the club names. Nearly everybody I've talked to about CPL agrees on that point.
