Likely Honduras starting 11:

FW: Lozano (Cadiz), Quioto (Montreal)

Mid: Lopez (Alajuelense), Acosta (Dallas), Flores (Olimpia), Rodriguez (Olimpia)

Def: Rodriguez (Motagua), Maldonado (Everton Chile), Figueroa (Houston), Alvarez (Norkopping)

Gk: Lopez (Rea; Espana)

Cannot wait to play these guys and put them in their place.  No fear.

In 2015 we had a great 1-0 win in Vancouver over Honduras. That was nice but another more convincing victory against them is something we really need. With the first game being at home, a solid Costa Rica -esqe win would go a long way leading up to the game down in Tegucigalpa or wherever we play. I know I’ve said this many times before but we really need to break the streak of not winning in Central America (haven’t since 2004.)

Alberth Elis is about to sign with Bordeaux - he’s probably their best player and will certainly start.

Good news for football; less so in hoping to take some points off Mexico.  Jimenez really looking and scoring in Wolves preseason game today.

Jimenez is the best player in concacaf if healthy IMO. Funes Mori is a really good backup but Jimenez takes them to another level.

Either way I dont think this changes much for us. We're not really competing with Mexico - Honduras, CR and Jamaica are the teams we need to beat and this makes things just as difficult for them as it does us

He’s a top 5 player. Not at the level of Davies or Pulisic. There’s levels within levels. He’s definitely in the top tier of CONCACAF players but not at the top of that level.

I agree generally but need to be thinking to take a point or two off them, never know what happens in the rest of the games.

Either way, pleased for him personally.

While we are not competing against Mexico for a spot in the top 3, Mexico will not go 14-0 in the qualifying.  One of the keys for us will be being one of the teams that takes points off of them.  After the Gold Cup display we won’t be fooling anyone and I would think most people in Concacaf have us as the third best team in the region.  If we play to our potential and nick a result off Mexico we will be going to the World Cup.  That is crazy to write after decades of futility.  The next crazy thing will be convincing my wife that a December trip to Qatar would be amazing and I think there is a soccer tourney happening while we are there.

He's better than Pulisic for me.  Davies plays a very different game, obviously.  But having a centre forward that has a bit of everything (scores regularly and can lay it off, good in the air) is more than what Pulisic brings to Chelsea at this point in his career.

Different levels though. Jimenez has flopped at UCL clubs. There are plenty of examples of players who can excel for middling clubs but aren’t cut out for the very top.

Wolves play some of the top Champions League teams a couple times a year, really as many as all but the top clubs in the competition do.   And players progress.   At this point in their careers, watching both regularly, Jimenez is better. For me.

I'm glad Honduras will still be without Alberth Elis when we play them in September.

I like that we got to play Costa Rica at the Gold Cup. Before the Gold Cup, Costa Rica was a bit of a WCQ wildcard for me. The general consensus here I think was they're maybe not as good as they were, but they're strong technically, they have championship experience, and they've had past success. For as long as I've checked rankings in the region, they've been a very solid 3rd, until just recently. I don't know how close their Gold Cup squad was to what we'll see in WCQ, but based on our match with them there and how we completely dominated, I'm feeling extremely bullish on our chances of finishing above them in the Octagonal.

That November home double-header against Costa Rica and Mexico is sure going to be exciting.

Per the article on the last page he is hurt.

One interesting thing about this schedule is that we don't travel to Central America until the last two windows.  Four of our last six matches are away to Honduras/El Salvador/Costa Rica/Panama.

I know.  I'm hoping a couple of teams will be out of the running by then and be checked out...

I looked back at the 2018 Hex and was surprised to see that not even Mexico won all their home games, but I think it’ll be really important not to lose any of our home games - if US hadn’t lost at home to Costa Rica they would have qualified in 3rd.  Still, there will be many ways to get this done and it’s so tough to pre-plan a “formula” - it’ll be one hell of a ride.

Which "marginal" players impressed for Canada at the Gold Cup and now have a chance to make the 23? Remember, of course, that there will be several Canadians who were not on the GC roster who will be back for WCQ. So, who has earned a roster spot and who may be left out?

American fans are anticipating rosters of 28 to 30 players.

Supposedly teams are required to name their 23 man roster 24 hrs prior to kick off. Therefore, we may also opt to call a bigger group of players and name different 23 man rosters for each match.

Ah! Thanks for that. Which "marginal" Canadians might make a 23 then? A 28 or 30 player roster would allow for almost anybody to be included even as a "get to know the boys" invite.
