Anglo guy from toronto on low wages moves to Montreal at 20 to escape the toxicity of Toronto and a dead end career? Brother you can’t get much more Montrealer than that lol

Low wages?

JMR’s making over $181k USD as a newly minted 20-year-old.

He lose all his composure when he's in the box or when he's near the box. I'm talking box of the opponent.

Like his head is always down (looking at the ground) when he got the ball. And same thing when he's crossing the ball his head is always down (looking at the ground).

And he's scary of the ball when there's aerial duels.

He's thinking too too much or sometimes he's not thinking at all.

They destroyed his development. By changing his position, etc.

He should've left MLS earlier and went to Europe earlier. He wasted his time in MLS.

In Europe they'd have developped him. By playing him at his position, etc.

I agree that his time at TFC wasn’t optimal.  But overall the alternative interpretation is that he was way over-hyped by a TFC organization that was hoping they had the next Davies, and he is actually roughly at the level he should be at - a still young guy growing into a solid MLS player with list of years ahead of him.  An early move to Europe definitely may have assisted with his development but over multiple years of watching I haven’t seen evidence that he is some sort of unrealized phenom.  He shows flashes of really solid play and has had some good outings but I can’t remember a single instance where he has dominated a game.  I think he is just a good young player - nothing more and nothing less.

Thing I realized is that alternate timeline JMR is probably just Corbeanu. Left TFC academy to go play in the premier league, did the loan carousel, and now he’s in LL2. JMR is a starter on a top half MLS club. Would’ve loved to see him go to Liverpool as planned, but maybe he really is just an above average young player trying to figure out his game.

Still don’t know his best position. Last night he would just make these daring runs down the right, dribble past a guy and then end up way too deep in the corner that he couldn’t really get a clean cross off. Had a few crafty plays with Vilsaint from what I recall, but wasn’t really dangerous. Surprised they let him play 90 tbh.

I think one can see why. He’s not dynamic in or around the box. His play was so bland and average last night. Not bad overall but just inept with the ball.

He's only 20. To put that in perspective, ask yourself where were Buchanan, Cornelius, Bombito, Millar at that age?

And we're still expecting some success from  Tani (24), Poku (21), Bair (25), Corbeanu (22).

Cut the kid some slack.

Exactly.  The kid is proving to be very solid, yet not flashy and still very young.  I just find it absolutely bonkers we're judging his performances based on seeing him play in a position that does not suit him at all.  He's got a tonne of pro experience for a 20yr old.  Just needs to find a coach that can develop him properly, TFC was not it, I don't feel Courtois is it either.
