The Soccer Snobs.

This is a new one and a really good one!! Podcast out of Ottawa. They've had a really good interview with Alex Bunbury as well as an interview with Thomas Beattie one of the only professional soccer players to come out as gay. Lots of good comedy in it as well.

Beer and Footy is back on the air!

https://www.buzzsprout.com/1072288/8088719

Two Canadian Soccer fans from different generations come together to talk about this most exciting potential team going into WCQ that also has the potential to be the most disappointing, through no fault of the players.

Planning to do another one to review the Olympic roster, if you'd like to be a guest send me a message.

This is a great podcast.   Both episodes have been excellent.

It's an ideal podcast for Voyageurs.

For other pods, you have to skip through a lot of other content: local club happenings, then other teams in the league/league wide matters, some Euro leagues, some D&D mentions and then maybe Canada national teams when playing.

Beer and Footy panel is back together to catch up on the world of footy. Talking Champions League Draw, Jose Mourinho and what makes a manager a great manager. They are not Euro snobs but there is a hilarious segment where someone asks "does Canada have WCQ games this month?" and I freak out trying to explain why I'm scared of Suriname.

Looking at sports podcast rankings in Canada via Spotify, Apple & Google, Spotify people aren't that interested in footy compared to Google & Apple people. As with podcasts in general and football viewing habits in Canada, foreign based football podcasts dominate. Guardian Football Weekly & ESPN FC are most popular across two of the three platforms.

Top in Spotify was ESPN FC at 23, Guardian Football Weekly at 30 & Arseblog at 50 relative to other sports & rec podcasts.

Top in Google was Football Ramble at 4, Sky Sports Football at 6, Athletico Mince at 7 & Arseblog at 11 relative to other sports & rec podcasts.

Apple has a stand-alone soccer category where Guardian Football Weekly, ESPN FC & Totally Football Show are the top 3. Top Canadian is the new Headers & Footers covering the Euros from Toronto Star at 7. Footy Prime is at 9, Northern Futbol at 23, AFTN at 27, Soccer Today at 29, CanPL Newsroom at 31, Waking the Red at 53, Foot et Cafe at 72, the defunct Kick in the Grass at 78 & the Third Sub at 98.

Podcast rankings aren't 100% reliable but Chartable is generally viewed as most accurate for Canada.

Seriously?!!? Why would anybody actively seek out those idiots' opinions on football. It's such an awful program.

ESPN FC used to be carried by TSN. So for that audience, the podcast is now the only way to hear it in Canada. It's 7 days a week. Helped by the time zone difference, it's usually the first out with the coverage of the day's action.

It doesn't get too deep into its analysis, so it's easy listening. It's Premier League-centric but does offer decent coverage of la Liga, Serie A & Bundesliga. And thankfully, it isn't American-centric.

It has the most varied & diverse number of analysts amongst podcasts, so all can't be idiots. I like Stewart Robinson, Marcotti, Hutchinson & Fjortoff.

Whenever I've watched the TV version, it's been Marcotti, Moreno, Shaka Hislop, Craig Burley, and Steve Nicol (all atrocious) with Adrian Healey as moderator. I've seen Frank Lebouef a few times on there, and he's not actually too bad. I don't any of the others you've names.

Yes, that's basically still the core bunch. Main moderator now is Dan Thomas who came from Real Madrid TV.

But they have been adding over the past 2 years including Robinson, Hutchinson, Fjortoff, Klinsman, Kasey Keller. Herc Gomez, Julien Laurens, Sid Lowe, Del Piero & Nedum Onuoha. As ESPN+ added more leagues, they realized they needed more than just British oriented experts - something TSN just realized in 2021.

They have also branched into other podcasts including Gab & Juls Show, Caught Offside, Futbol Americas & The Conversation. So somebody likes them.

Canada men's football getting some mainstream attention via Toronto Star's This Matters podcast. Number 9 ranked in Apple's daily news podcast category. Helps that Brendan Dunlop is host of the Star's Euro-focused Headers & Footers podcast. He is really energetic in this podcast especially compared to his monotone CPL match delivery. But he has some nice words for the league.

Canada is not among the traditional superpowers of world football (or soccer, if you like). But a new generation of the brightest talents in the game — Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David — are giving Canadian footy fans a reason to dream of competing with the biggest names and nations of the beautiful game. It’s been over 30 years since Canada’s men’s national team made it to the World Cup. Can they land a spot in next year’s tournament? We talk about the highs and lows of Canadian football, the growth of the game in Canada and why the years ahead might be the best to come.
