Jonas sounds quite uncertain about his senior national team future. Says that he feels like Finland wants him but he can't say anything certain about it yet.

Makes sense why Finland would want him given they just qualified for their first major tournament in history by qualifying for EURO 2021 so I can see him deciding to play for Finland for that very reason

A little update: Jonas has played in all eight games in Haka's domestic (Suomen) Cup run, including 90 minutes vs Helsinki in the 3-2 semi-final loss. Finland does their cup as kind of a warm-up to the regular season which has also kicked off and Jonas has played 90 minutes in each of the first four matches for Haka in Finland's top flight.

I find this especially remarkable given he is just 21, is with his second team in his second professional season (and has apparently adjusted immediately) and teams are taking advantage and making liberal use of the new five subs and yet he's clearly been deemed inexpendible even given these circumstances.

Something tells me this kid is heading places and he has reportedly yet to decide between Finland and Canada.

His club Haka avoided relegation in a COVID shorted season:

His contract with FC Haka is up at the end of the year.

He was called up by Finland in October for one of the two U21 matches they had but remained an unused sub.

but was out of the squad for the other match (did not travel to Denmark?)

He was not called up in November for Finland's final U21 game against minnows Malta

He's a '99 and the next UEFA U-21 cycle is for the 2000 and younger.
So that's it for him for youth football unless he files his one time switch and tries to play for Canada in Olympic Qualifying.

The way it sounds too is that Canada hasn't contacted him. Mistake on the CSA's part if that's the case.

At his current level he could possibly help us at U23 level but he's not quite senior #CanMNT or senior Finland material even with our lack of CB depth.
(I say this "on paper/theoretically" as I have never seen him play).

Best of luck to him in 2021 I guess.

Which club is he at now? I am blind and still clueless from reading his instagram lol.

Regarding where he is at, he is 21, plenty of time on his side imo. Getting solid playtime is what matters and if he remains at a top flight club giving it to him that is fine for now. It'd not a sexy league but he can only learn and improve if he keeps playing there. Still one to consider for the U23's imo although weirdly we might be ok with out him at this point!

How do you interpret that?

The previous Instagram post has him climbing Lynn Peak in North Van, so he was in Vancouver over Christmas.

I see his agency has players in Spain, Japan, MLS, USL, India, lower tier England, quite the mix. Wonder if he'll be signed to the CPL? They have a player at At Ottawa, Tevin Shaw, and Jay Wheeldon as well. Also one at At San Luis the At Madrid affiliate in Mexico.

possibly could be a target for someone like Pacific, I suppose - he was a Whitecaps Academy kid after all... but the way I interpret it, is that he'll at least be playing in 2021 and not much more than that. In theory, for all I know, he could be headed back to the Veikkausliiga.

Wouldn't you say if he posts a pic of himself in the Haka uniform in the off season he'd be lining up to play for them again?

Again Ireland second tier? I can see your young and the chance to travel and live in some beautiful places , Ireland would be a nice experience to live and experience the place . However, second tier Ireland in terms of level can’t be any better than some top amateur men’s leagues in say Vancouver or Toronto .

Kris Twardek spent a few years in Ireland before transferring to Poland.

Still, he was in the first tier.

You think the level and salary is lower than CanPL?

Cork is a traditional power in Ireland surprised to see them in the 2nd tier.

Could end up being a decent stepping stone.

But Twardek played in the first tier, on top half of the table teams.  I believe Bohemians were second place when he left for Poland.
