nolando
A little update: Jonas has played in all eight games in Haka's domestic (Suomen) Cup run, including 90 minutes vs Helsinki in the 3-2 semi-final loss. Finland does their cup as kind of a warm-up to the regular season which has also kicked off and Jonas has played 90 minutes in each of the first four matches for Haka in Finland's top flight. I find this especially remarkable given he is just 21, is with his second team in his second professional season (and has apparently adjusted immediately) and teams are taking advantage and making liberal use of the new five subs and yet he's clearly been deemed inexpendible even given these circumstances. Something tells me this kid is heading places and he has reportedly yet to decide between Finland and Canada. nolando
He's been left on the bench the past three matches. His club are second bottom in the Finnish top flight, so might be just a case of reshuffling the deck from the manager.

At his current level he could possibly help us at U23 level but he's not quite senior #CanMNT or senior Finland material even with our lack of CB depth. (I say this "on paper/theoretically" as I have never seen him play). Best of luck to him in 2021 I guess. VinceA
I like the kid but honestly if he's going to keep hopping from one relegation candidate in Finland to another I don't know how useful he can be. It seems the Finnish youth set up has moved on from him.
toontownman
Which club is he at now? I am blind and still clueless from reading his instagram lol. Regarding where he is at, he is 21, plenty of time on his side imo. Getting solid playtime is what matters and if he remains at a top flight club giving it to him that is fine for now. It'd not a sexy league but he can only learn and improve if he keeps playing there. Still one to consider for the U23's imo although weirdly we might be ok with out him at this point! johnyb

The previous Instagram post has him climbing Lynn Peak in North Van, so he was in Vancouver over Christmas. I see his agency has players in Spain, Japan, MLS, USL, India, lower tier England, quite the mix. Wonder if he'll be signed to the CPL? They have a player at At Ottawa, Tevin Shaw, and Jay Wheeldon as well. Also one at At San Luis the At Madrid affiliate in Mexico. In theory, for all I know, he could be headed back to the Veikkausliiga.

nolando
Jonas was mentioned in this Bair article. https://theprovince.com/sports/soccer/mls/vancouver-whitecaps/bair-hopes-canada-call-up-will-kickstart-2021-campaign-with-whitecaps Apparently he is back in town training for the upcoming season. The article made it sounds like he is still a Haka player. johnyb
nolando
Jonas just signed with Cork City in Ireland. Bit of a disappointing move, as they were relegated at the end of 2020 to the second-tier for this season. https://www.the42.ie/cork-city-complete-signing-of-finnish-defender-jonas-hakkinen-5374411-Mar2021/ Edited March 8, 2021 by nolando Buchta, Trois Reds and johnyb 2
MM3/MM2/MM
So how much would he be making in Ireland's Tier 2? Cork City stopped paying players wages when the 2020 season was interrupted by Covid.
toontownman
Surely a CPL team would have been interested. That is too bad, he seemed like a prospect. Maybe it can be a stepping stone year.
SoccMan
Again Ireland second tier? I can see your young and the chance to travel and live in some beautiful places , Ireland would be a nice experience to live and experience the place . However, second tier Ireland in terms of level can’t be any better than some top amateur men’s leagues in say Vancouver or Toronto .
narduch
Kris Twardek spent a few years in Ireland before transferring to Poland. Cork is a traditional power in Ireland surprised to see them in the 2nd tier. Could end up being a decent stepping stone.
