Should CSA or CPL hire Tom Byer for youth development?

I'm not sure how many of you have heard of Tom Byer and I'm not an expert on him myself but I'll give you a short story:

Tom Byer is an American soccer coach and technical instructor based in Japan. He moved there to play professionally in the 1980's after the NASL folded and ended up settling there and having a family. He first did experiments on his kids on ball control and video-taped their progress, which afterwards he published a book and made instructional videos for Japanese kids learning how to play. The book btw is called Soccer/Football Starts at Home.

If you noticed Japan's remarkable improvement and the amount of talent moving to Europe and their performance at the WC a lot of it comes from Tom Byer's work. He's got them to play technically and with Japan's success other countries in Asia/Pacific have approached him in helping their soccer programs. He's also presented for the Premier League a few times. Last year the US tried to get him to set up a program but the idiots at USSF cut his program short after 6 months because they were not "seeing results" and thought it wasn't worth funding the program further, also complicated with a change in leadership.

So I thought Canada could take this chance and hire Tom Byer to set up youth development programs to work with Excel and/or CPL academies. He could get kids to master ball skills early so academies can spent less time on basics and more on tactics and gameplan. Canada could grab him and use his services after his native country continues to reject him despite offering to help several times. Well, here's a video of him in Japan:

And here's an interview:

Yeah, not sure the hiring decisions of USSF are anything to be emulating over the last few years. "even they fired him" suggests they actually knew what they were doing

The US didn't fire him, they only gave him a 6 mos. contract and after the election the new pres decided not to renew it. The US made a mistake not wanting his help when he's had proven success and is highly regarded.

Byer's program needs years for players to grow up and gradually build skills and 6 months is not enough to judge results by.

I guess Robbo can say the same thing, in which he developed Davies through his program.

All jokes a side, 99% of coaches will say they need "years" for their program.

Well, that's fine if you think Canada doesn't need Tom Byer but I just made a suggestion to see how many here actually knows about him. If CSA can find another way to get kids to be comfortable with the ball before their teenage years then that's great.

Are you Tom Byer?
