And Mount is not a slow player but he looked like he was standing still. There was another one early in the second half where he ran Mount down when he'd gotten in behind. He held him off for Neuer to come collect, but he didn't come and it became a bit messy. Phonz's recovery and defensive shield were magnificent, though. SthMelbRed 1,559
If Bayern can get Man City in the next round, he can pocket Phil Foden to nearly complete his English wunderkind set. He's already got Sancho, Mount, and James in there. Trent Alexander-Arnold is the hardest piece of that particular collection to get hold of, though. 😄 Obinna and LeoH037 1

kacbru 458
I only was able to follow the game in the Guardian minute-by-minute https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2020/feb/25/chelsea-v-bayern-munich-champions-league-last-16-live . This was one of the many comments about Davies that stood out (italics on sensational are the Guardian, not me!): 87 min: Davies scampers down the left yet again and finds Lewandowski on the edge of the box. Not for the first time tonight, a great chance is passed by as a Bayern striker can’t sort out his feet. They’ve earned the right to make a few mistakes, to be fair. Davies has been sensational, a star in the making. johnyb, Greatest Cockney Rip Off, The Beaver 2.0 and 3 others
The Beaver 2.0 327
And he seems a genuinely good human being, too!! Damned proud of all that he's achieved in a short amount of time. I feel blessed that I got to see him play at BC Place. Hope to see him on the Island (but I imagine tickets are all gone, yes?) cronaldo7, Obinna, N1ckbr0wn and 1 other
saintjoes 56
From BBC sports: "..And in 19-year-old Alphonso Davies they have a glorious young talent who has it all, raiding from left-back with pace, composure and end product." Man of the match - Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) Alphonso Davies was influential at both ends as he assisted Lewandowski's goal and outpaced Mason Mount twice to cover in defence gator, dyslexic nam, CANMNT_SUPERFAN and 3 others
Unnamed Trialist 5,661
I watched in Spanish on Movistar the first half, TNT the second (I think, in English), and the praises were coming for him from all sides, even before the goal. I think from that play where he pressured up high in the 1st half and fed in a little pass into the box that was closed down. It's rather odd for me to not watch Barça ( I peeked), but we are playing so drably lately and I get little pleasure from having to wait for the odd bit of genious. Bayern is more entertaining. Also, thought this during the match: compare Davies with his rival left back, Alonso had nightmares all day although the red was soft, he was being picked apart and did not compare well. BFBF 171
I have a feeling the CSA will have no excuses when booking friendlies now.... If they use Davies and David right the CSA should be able to actually develop an international brand. What a gift this kid is. Not to mention the gift to the Canpl... People across the world just realized Canada can actually play, and we actually have a league full of young talents to showcase. cronaldo7, Kadenge, CANMNT_SUPERFAN and 3 others

SpursFlu 2,592
Toronto Sports Network should for once help the cause here. Tons of bs crap on their landing page until you scroll way down to find one article on the game. This is just ridiculous Its not like this is some kid who's been buried in a European academy since he was young and can barely find Canada on a map. He made history playing here in Canada before he left and proudly flies the flag always. C'mon Canadian, get your shit together This kid has more charisma than Bianca, McDavid, Shapa, RJBarret whoever combined Edited February 26, 2020 by SpursFlu Mikej, SkuseisLoose, johnyb and 2 others
Bdog 792
The only thing that would have made it better would have been Pulisic getting shut down by Phonzie all game. He’s so good every time he goes forward, other than the fast breaks he also dangled a few defenders in a tight space a couple of times. This game actually reminded me of 17 year old Davies vs MLS defenders. Obinna
