If we play Honduras and beat them in the semi final, they would lose points also. They can't take points from Martinique either. Is there a chance we catch Honduras (friendlies aside)?

Also, anyone know the tie-breaker if teams are tied for FIFA points (ridiculous, but possible nonetheless)?

If Honduras loses to TnT in November (highly unlikely), they'd drop 15 points to 1353, still well ahead of where we will likely be at the end of this year.  If they win they will gain 9 points, so 1377 and way out of reach.

Teams won't lose points in the CNL knock out rounds.

From FIFA, "Knock-out rounds of final competitions: Teams that earn negative points in the knock-out round of a final competition (e.g. as a result of losing, or even winning after PSO against a weaker team) do not lose any points.  This condition was introduced in order to protect the point totals of teams that have progressed to the knock-out round."

If they lose to Trinidad, and they lose a friendly in March, and we win out, it is still possible to catch Honduras. Theoretically.

There won't be a tie.  FIFA points are always rounded off.  They'll just consider the next decimal point to decide who is actually ahead.

El Salvador didnt get their FIFA points by magic.  They played friendlies and won games, including beating us in 2017, OZ's last match. They played 3 friendlies in 2018, and 4 friendlies this yea

(take long sigh, puts arm gently around shoulder of the new forum member) Son, you must not be from around these parts, amirite?

Nil nil at halftime for St Lucia - El Salvador.

if that holds as unlikely as it is  El Salvador would drop 7 points I believe. Big help for us.

Does not look super unlikely, fairly even so far.

(Probably should not jinx it)

Update - Sorry poor by keeper from first look 0-1 El Salvador.

El Salvador players now in mortal agony every time they hit the ground.  Huge save by El Salvador keeper which damaged him for a couple full minutes.

No joy there 0-2.

Lost in the excitement, Mexico beat Panama last night 3-1 with a large contingent of Liga MX players.

Panama faught hard, game was 1-1 at the half, where Mexico grabbed the lead at the 75 min mark.

Would have to assume unless a huge miracle, Panama is out of contention for the hex.

Looks like it will come down to Canada-El Salvador, Curacao for the final spot.

Hopefully they get to play at home and not some neutral site again.

It's scheduled for a neutral site again. Don't think that is going to change between now and game day.

Henry's red really hurt us as we couldn't run up the score, rather just worry about holding onto 3 pts.

Need Cuba to pull us a solid and play the best they can in their home game vs USA. Surely they'll know their result can impact USA not finishing first and that should be at least some motivation to them.

After last night's dominant win. We're good man. We'll control our own fate!

Panama will be playing a friendly against Peru to close out this FIFA window.  Will be tough for them to win in Lima, but they are desperate for points.

If Panama somehow beat Mexico, it would be 19 big points for them, and Mexico is doing us no favours with their squad selection.  Mexico has gone with a domestic squad, leaving their big guns out including Chucky Lozano, Guardado, Herrera, and Tecatito Corona.  EPL striker Raul Jimenez has been called up so at least that is something.

I can't imagine Panama getting the win but they're at home and stranger things have happened.

Curacao host Costa Rica tomorrow with first place in group D up for grabs.  A Costa Rica win destroys Curacao's Hex chances.

OF COURSE, Costa Rica will be without their long time captain Bryan Ruiz, forward Joel Campbell, another regular mid who plays in Minnesota, and their most important player, PSG keeper Keylor Navas who is suddenly "injured".  To top it all off, their back up keeper was unable to get out of Bolivia where he plays his club football due to the political unrest there.

Less than 1000 tickets sold for each of El Salvador's home matches against Montserrat (Saturday) and Dominican Republic (Tuesday).

Is there a specific reason for this? I don't know much about El Salvador or El Salvadoran football but less than 1000 tickets for two games in a 27000 seat stadium seems like an issue

Unfortunately, we probably hope this has some kind of effect on the team.  A loss in there and nothing but friendlies until June would probably put them too far back.

A tie can still see Costa Rica win the group and eliminate Curacao from the Hex, theyd just need to run up the score on Haiti a bit next week, which won't be easy.

Costa Rica needs to respect Curacaos counter a bit more.

Actually beating Haiti by any scoreline next week sees CR through, if they tie here.  But why prolong things? C'mon Costa Rica, get it done.
