General - CONCACAF Nations League

Another thing about being in a group with the USA is that we have a chance to knock out presumably the first pick for host of the playoffs. I wonder if USA will still host (probably) if they aren't even in the playoffs. If CONCACAF is open to having it elsewhere, it would be cool if we would be able to host the playoffs after knocking out the USA.

Concacaf informed that the CNL matches should be  played at night, which puts the match at Pedro Marrero in Havana in checkmate. According to some reports, nothing has yet been done to put the lighting in that stadium, with two months to go before the game. It is even speculated that it is played in another country, Check this link:

Another great piece of journalism from CiberCuba on July 9th, following up on their earlier article, states that the game will likely be played in Panama City, Panama.

I know Cuba isn’t financially stable but I’m surprised they can’t afford lights or don’t have a single stadium with lights.

It's not just the lights, it's the lights of a certain strength with back-up generators so if local power goes out, the game can continue.

They have shipped the lights from Spain but have yet to install them!

He also mentioned that Henry who limped out of the Caps match is probably out for 7 or 8 weeks with a hamstring injury and out of the Cuba matches!

Well if we can take any positives from this it's that Cornelius will probably get more playing time with the whitecaps so that's something

In that interview, Herdman and Wileman backed up what Wheeler said a few days back, that they thought CONCACAF ranking was going to be used and then at the last minute it was changed to FIFA ranking. So Canada went from 6th down to 8th with that decision. He said that it's going to be a massive challenge, and that making it to the hex is out of our hands now, which he's right about. He pointed out that we could win every game from here on in and potentially still not make it to the hex.

If that's true it puts the risks against Mexico and Haiti into a slightly clearer perspective. Still some decisions that negatively affected the results of the GC but the risk was less great if they believed CONCACAF rankings were going to be used.

That is a failure of leadership at the CSA, especially given the head of the Confederation is your countries past president. Someone should've been in daily contact with Montagliani. The decision to move from Concacaf to FIFA rankings didn't happen overnight.

The decision in itself is stupid given the Concacaf rankings actually account for games played against non fifa opponents. If you're going to allow non fifa teams to participate in continental championships, then you need to rank your teams accordingly, with a metric which accounts for games played against those non fifa teams.

So if a team is drawn against 2 non fifa opponents in their group then plays a QF against another non Fifa opponent they lose out on points in all 3 games.
