General - CONCACAF Nations League

Give me the Americans. When was the last time we played them in a competitive fixture? I think it would be fun to see how we compare and the potential for that upset would cause an absolute meltdown among their fan base.

For the the other team I’d prefer one of Curaçao or Cuba. Teams we should beat imo but would still give us a good challenge.

2011 Gold Cup I think (in terms of the senior teams at least), so yes it has been a while.

I actually was fancying T&T as an opponent for similar reasons, I don't think we have played them in a competitive match since 2000 when they knocked us out of Qualifying. Been waiting a long time for any kind of revenge, but as we are in the same pot as they are I guess it won't happen in the Nations League (though Gold Cup is still a possibility).

Just for fun, I decided to look back and see when Canada's last competitive fixtures were with the other League A teams:

Mexico – 2016 2-0 L in Mexico City (2018 WCQ)

United States – 2011 2-0 L in Detroit (2011 GC)

Costa Rica – 2017 1-1 D in Houston (2017 GC)

Honduras – 2017 0-0 D in Frisco (2017 GC)

Panama – 2013 0-0 D in Denver (2013 GC)

Haiti – 2007 0-2 W in Miami (2007 GC)

T&T – 2000 4-0 L in Port of Spain (2002 WCQ)

Martinique – 2013 0-1 L in Los Angeles (2013 GC)

Cuba – 2012 3-0 W in Toronto (2014 WCQ)

Curaçao - never (also applies to when they were the Netherlands Antilles)

Bermuda – 1992 0-0 D in Hamilton, Bermuda (1994 WCQ)

So we only beat Haiti and Cuba?  Ouch.  Lets rectify that.

I think T&T will likely be in our Gold Cup group for this reason; we can't draw them in Nations League.

Want to avoid USA and Mexico (chance to advance to semis is none) from Pot A; would be good to get Costa Rica or Honduras and from Pot C; I do not want to play vs Martinique (No FIFA pts) or Bermuda (meaningless/fluke), however if we get Cuba or Curacao I will be happy

Summary:

No - USA, Mexico, Martinique, Bermuda

Yes - Costa Rica, Honduras, Cuba, Curacao

I hope we set up friendlies with teams from Pot B: Panama, Haiti, Trinidad or from League B: Jamaica, Nicaragua, El Salvador,

Obviously the idea would be to avoid playing same opponent twice, so besides the gold cup, I think variety is good and from our own region!

I now fear that as well. At first I assumed it would be a schedule similar to the WC, with teams drawn into predetermined groups and schedules but the more I think about the more I think you're right and Concacaf is going to Concacaf this.

Look at this page:

http://www.concacafnationsleague.com/en/video/official-draw-2019-concacaf-nations-league

The have made it clear. There is no schedule; there are just groups. We will NOT know WHEN we are playing. We will only know WHO we are playing.

Sorry to double-post but another thing to note is that I would place a wager on a home game (or two) in September:

There are no Argos game between August 25th and September 20th.
http://www.argonauts.ca/schedule/
No TFC games between August 24th and September 15th
http://www.torontofc.ca/schedule

There are no BC Lions games between August 24th and September 13th
http://www.bclions.com/schedule/
There are no Whitecaps games August 31st and September 14th
http://www.whitecapsfc.com/schedule

No games at Saputo between August 31st and September 14th

If we play at home in October, I'd guess it won't be at BMO Field but maybe BC Place.

I'm dying at the highlights of the teams who didn't score a goal, so they had to show them missing the net.

"Guatamala has won their last two friendly matches"
