Horst Hrubesch is an interim manager on his last match and he clearly chose to be generous with his opportunities. He left a lot a quality back in Germany and brought a lot of newbies to Canada. And even with his starters today he left a lot of quality on the bench ( Dabritz, Dallmann, Maier ) and then brought them on later . That said, there were no old players on Germany's roster -- everyone was in their 20s and every single German player was a serious contributor for her club in the Frauen Bundesliga. [ 2 ] Very pleased with the Christine Sinclair's goal.( You really have to earn them against Germany ) I can't wait to see Christine Sinclair in CONCACAF ! None looked particularly stoppable by Labbe from where I was sitting. Buchanan with some terrible giveaways at back though you can see her physical dominance. Some nice spells of possession by Canada but often too slow to make the incisive pass. Some good runs went unrewarded due to late passes. Need to find an heir apparent to Sinclair and inject some pace up front! Could use a little more creativity in central midfield too. Understand this was not Germany's A team, but on the whole our women played fine and were unlucky not to win this game. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
red card Posted June 10, 2018 Share Posted June 10, 2018 It was a new formation for Canada 3-5-2. Not sure if this is an experiment or a trial run for qualifers and WC. For Concacaf and against the weaker women's teams, this is a good way to go since we have 3 very good back liners. But we do need to inject more quickness up on top rather than have Matheson & Schmidt together with Sinclair. Need to have at least Prince, Huitema, Leon or Rose in there with Sinclair. Against good teams, the wingers need to come back to help which didn't happen too often in the 1st half today. And compared to the previous formation, the wingers were largely ineffective today while Germany's were running Canada all over the place in the 1st half. But our attack had a bit more variety vs mostly seeing wingers cross the ball. I like that Buchanan is stepping up into the play as that is the next level of progression for her. RickC Posted June 11, 2018 Share Posted June 11, 2018 It was a good game to be at. Early on, too many long balls to no one in particular but that stopped as the game went on. Some good passing and determination. Christine Sinclair is a notch (or two) above all of the other players. Good to see her get a goal and on Canada's second, although I don't think she even touched the ball, drew a German defender along with her as the cross went to Fleming who put it in. gator Posted June 11, 2018 Share Posted June 11, 2018 It was an entertaining match, perhaps it lacked the importance that a 5 goal match could be, both sides showed some qualities, there were some big errors defensively on most of the goals! The crowd in Hamilton was great, I look forward to having our CanPL team playing matches here and the CSA has to regard Hamilton as a good host for National Team games!
