According to Livescore.com, Larin starting today for Besiktas.

Yes he is playing now. Watching it right now. This is a very important game for Besiktas with a Champions League spot on the line. There are some injuries that benefit Larin getting the start for this match but he got the start over Vagner Love who is on the bench.

Very strong. He seems to get his head on almost every cross. He had a one on one with the keeper in which he shot right at the keeper although he was already in pretty tight. Possibly he could be a bit more deadly in his finishing but he will score if he keeps this up. On the goal all 3 Sivaspor defenders went to him allowing Talisca to come in open to his left to head the cross in. He got a yellow for his second collision with the keeper so he will need to be careful about that. Looks like he can play at this level and is making a case to stay with Besiktas next year. He is playing like he did for Orlando not for the national team which probably indicates the difference in service he gets with club teams as opposed to the national team.

I called it. He just scored on header from a corner. It deflected off one of the defenders heads on the way in so the announcer said it might be called an own goal but it was still totally Larin's goal.

I never thought he was particularly out of shape in Orlando — he's a pretty muscular guy — but he looks really fit right now eh? Good finish on the second and the header saved off the line was nicely done. From that angle he probably could have done no more. Good signs to end his season.

cheers, matthew

Was that Atiba with the no look assist to Babel for the 5th goal? :)

Edit: I think it was Talisco. Stupid grainy stream. Really wearing my Maple Leaf glasses now :)

Atiba wasn't on the bench. I wouldn't blame the stream here.

Great game by Larin today and fantastic way to end the season! I don't think any of us would have expected him to score 4 goals in 4 games back when he signed in January.

Even if he goes out on loan next season, the way he ended the season will surely give him plenty of confidence.

Congrats to Larin!

It's pretty clear what type of player Larin is. He isn't player that gets involved much with the build up, but he is dangerous in the air and generally when the ball is feed into him in the box.

I think all Larin's potential hinges on how consistently he is with his finishing. If he can just convert more chances he'll have a successful career.

Did you watch the game? Today he was involved in the buildup a number of times. He made a number of nice passes to teammates and even had a run where he dribbled around two or three  Sivaspor players (I forget how many it was but it was impressive enough to get a cheer from the spectators) before passing to his teammate in a threatening position (who then lost the ball). His on the ball skills did not look at all out of place with his teammates today. Yes he is still a target man and at the national team level we struggle to get him the ball but he is not unskilled. Hopefully the improvements in the skill of our midfield will help him get more service and Herdman will be able to come up with a formation to utilize him properly because he was a beast today and if he can play like that for Canada he will threaten the defence of even the top CONCACAF nations.
