From the picture he appears to be black, but not much else to go off. My best guess would be Nigel Reo-Coker since he's out of contract and maybe would want to come back to Canada since he hasn't had much success since returning to Europe.

My more random, hopeful guess is Darren Bent, who's also been out of contract since the summer.

Obviously there's a very high chance it'll just be some guy we couldn't have predicted though.

Callum Hudson-Odoi probably

These two tweets lead me to believe that it will be a bigger signing than some random trialist or an existing member of Calgary Foothills

I'm definitely hoping so too!  Just throwing names out there.  Sometimes imo this league has had a tendency to overhype relatively minor announcements, so I've probably become overly cautious in my guesses.  Fingers crossed this is a good one.

This is a perfect time for Cavalry FC to make a splash too after signing mostly Foothills players.

Not quite the big signing, but could have potential. Looks like he was playing in the Czech second division until recently.  Journalists covering CanPL are rather big on the hyperbole.

His former club in the Czech second tier are averaging 648 spectators per game this season:

so probably a mix of semi- and fully pro players. Guess what makes him valuable to have around from a PR standpoint is that he was an England youth international when he a youth player with Arsenal.

Beyond the PR, not a bad pick up to see what he's made off. We'll see if he peaked or if he'll get to the next level as a late bloomer and help everyone else around him.

His resume looks half-decent.

Before playing in Czech he played with Hannover's second team, scoring 9 goals in 40 games, presumably in the regional leagues of Germany. That's not a super high level, but that's not a dissimilar career path to what some of our national team players take. Kianz Froese, who is the same age, has 15 goals in 45 games at that level - slightly better numbers, but it's not worlds apart.

He was also signed to the first team at West Ham it looks like, but clearly never played for them and was loaned out.

Despite perhaps being underwhelming, due to the hype, it is definitely above average compared to the other players that have joined teams thus far.

I don't disagree that he seems a perfectly fine signing, in comparison to the signings coming in.  It's just a bit of a letdown after the comments. I'm personally more enthused by say a Awuah, Ledgerwood or Haber. As someone who watches quite a bit of semi-pro football in the UK I have seen plenty of former England youth internationals playing in the 6th, 7th and 8th tiers of the game. Maybe it's just a cultural thing.  I was just kinda expecting someone with a bit more English professional league experience.

I wouldn’t write him off until we see him play. Especially when you see the impact players like Luke Rodgers and Bradley Wright Philips have made in North America.

Rodgers and Wright-Philips both had fine records in the pro game in England before signing. It's hard to compare them with Brown. Although, as you said, we shouldn't write Brown off! Hasn't even kicked a ball in Canada yet!

Czech second tier is fully professional.

People would claim that about the Scottish second tier as well but there is usually at least one part-time club with a support of under 1000 in that division (Alloa and Dumbarton have been the usual suspects on that in recent seasons). In a European pro/rel system some small clubs can get to mix it with the big boys for a few seasons.

The thing is, at the moment, every club currently in the Czech second tier is professional, including SC Znojmo FK. Teams can still be professional and have poor attendance turnout.
