Ronald Koeman, manager of the Dutch national team, confirmed today that Turner Valley, Alberta-born Dwight Lodeweges will join his technical staff as an assistant coach. Lodeweges, currently under contract with John van 't Ship's PEC Zwolle, played for the Edmonton Drillers and Montreal Manic in the NASL.

Congratulations go out to Dwight Lodeweges. The KNVB appointed 60-year old from Turner Valley, Alberta, as the head coach of the Dutch U20 squad earlier this week.

Lodeweges nieuwe bondscoach Oranje onder-20

Today, Dwight Lodeweges became the first Canadian-born coach to coach a European national team. Although it is in caretaker capacity, following Ronald Koeman's departure to go and coach Messi at Barcelona, Lodeweges will show up in the record books as being the head-coach of the Netherlands in the 1-0 UEFA Nations League victory over Poland.

John van 't Schip is coaching Greece and was named in July 2019 - 7 games 3 W 2L 2D already. But Congratulations to Dwight. It’s a real shame Canada can’t have either of these two Canadian-European pro coaches. No we get the English Ted talk Hobbit. Frodo Herdman.

It is shame these traitors have abandoned their country of birth to coach two perennial European disappointments.

Isn't interesting that currently 2 of UEFA's 55 countries are being coached by Canadian-born coaches. Nice to see that when opportunity knocks, Canadian-born managers are being considered.

It is interesting but unfortunately it’s probably a detriment to their careers, especially for Dwight. If only a true footballing nation like Germany had asked him to be video coach or ball boy, it would have served him and his career much better. He could have learned so much.

My Wikipedia search shows that these two Canadian-born coaches were immersed in Dutch Football as both players and coaches. It seems as though Lodeweges has more of a Canadian connection, playing for and briefly coaching Edmonton team and has worked his way up slowly through the Dutch ranks.   I’m sure it’s these resumes from Dutch football that have landed both of them these jobs.

Do either of these guys consider themselves to be Canadian?

I don’t know care, they were born here and should celebrated. Also they both should have the Canadian coaching jobs! At the Senior level and U23. I really like Mauro Biello so he could stay in the mix maybe U20, man they need to fire that fat piece of shit Andrew Olivieri. That guy is what’s wrong with Canada Soccer right here ! A useless, not qualified, hasnt won a damn thing, amateur , Frodo Herdman’s yes man! I don’t know what’s worse Floro’s son coaching the U23 or this fat clown !

You want a guy who couldn't give a **** about this country or its football team, who has never coached a day in his life, to be handed a job by the CSA? I guess the search for your first intelligent thought continues. 🙄

Well they gave Dale Mitchell the senior job and they gave  Paul Stalteri the U17 as his first coaching job. So why not,  Owen is one most decorated Canadian Born player to ever play. Also he was working with Man City academies. Oh the haters are gonna go crazy lmao.

4 English premier league titles

2 Champions league titles

4 German Championships

2 World Cup appearances

just think it could be the forgiveness campaign. The sports media would go crazy and buzz around this form would be insane.
