2018 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship in Nicaragua

Priestman seems to be doing a decent job developing players for the senior national team. But in terms of team management during tourneys, her teams have been underwhelming.

So, given under Herdman, winning at the youth level was secondary to doing well at the senior level, I can understand why Priestman follows the senior national team formation and tactics even though certain matches require adjustment pre match or during the match. Instead, she just slots in different players in the same formation.

Her teams have also been not cutting in attack - they can move the ball around which is a step forward from 10 years ago but are either too timid or lack additional football iq to make the final pass to unlock defenses. This could be due to inexperience of youth as some of the players actually look better playing on the senior national team.

So, no firing yet but she fails to qualify the u17 team, despite all the development progress, it isn't good for morale of the young players in the development stream when teams continually fail to qualify.

I'm excited to see Huitema play against players her own age. If she can score a brace at the senior level and win the golden boot at the U20 level she can really light up the U17's.

Not saying I agree with it in any way whatsoever, but given she's had seven senior caps and plenty of U20 participation, similar to Jessie Fleming and Deanne Rose at U20, wouldn't her participation in a U17 tournament go against that?

That is true. My hope is that we learned the lesson that not fielding the best possible team will lead to consequences. Not that missing one U20 World Cup is the end of the world but constantly putting in lackluster performances will hurt the program in the long run. I'm also not sure how deep we are at striker at the U17 level right now. It is possible that there is a large drop-off in quality after Huitema. I really hope that she plays but if she doesn't it is what it is.

The draw just finished.

Group A = Nicaragua, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Haiti

Group B = United States, Costa Rica, Canada, Bermuda

Similar format to the U-20 tournament in that the top 2 teams from each group advance to semi-finals and then 3 out of the final 4 qualify for the World Cup in Uruguay.

The pre tournament prep squad in Markham:

Huitema  goes to France with the senior team:

The question is, does Huitema then fly down to Nicaragua after France?

EDIT: Grosso is a 2000 and not eligible (too old) for the U17!

Starting XI vs Bermuda. Huitema wearing the armband.

40' Goal by Jayde Riviere

62'  & 81' Goal by Kaila Novak

Good 3-0 win for the girls to start the tourney

And just thought that this was pretty cool:

Just wish that the MNT had a better bus while in Spain!

[  1  ]  The link for tomorrow's match  ( Costa Rica vs Canada ) is already on the CONCACAF website with a  clock counting down:    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fWiIuYTRs4

[ 2 ]  Ottawa's Carmen Marin is with  U17 Costa Rica.  Marin  made news in 2014   attempting to make Costa Rica U17 team  as a twelve year old:  http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-12-year-old-trying-out-for-under-17-fifa-world-cup-1.2491280

She eventually was selected for Costa Rica's U15 team  and played in the  2016  CONCACAF Girls'  Under-15 Championship  Orlando.   Marin also played for West Ottawa SC in L1O in 2017.
