 I think he has grown into his time there and has linked up well with Berahino.  Gets a lot of stick for good past reasons but is a legitimate option for us.

Looks like Gent and David agreed to extend his contract for one more year, to 2023.  In order to agree to the extension, I can only assume that Gent had to come up with a significant salary bump, probably worth somewhere in the low 7 figures since the extra year will result in an even higher transfer fee.

The Golden Boy top 40 was posted on Davies page. Figured the absence of David should be mentioned here. I have no idea if he is top 40, since there are so many players from different leagues in it. However, there are 2 players from Belgium that he seems better than.

Denis Dragus (St. Liege)  that has only played in 1 game this year. Just transferred from Romania, where he scored 7 goals in 31 appearances last season. He did also score 4 goals in 4 Europa League games. Has also played 2 games for the Romanian national team.

Krepin Diatta (Club Brugge) has scored 3 goals in 5 games this year. Plays as more of a winger so not bad numbers. Only had 2 goals in 23 matches last season. Also has played 4 Champions League games this year as well as 10 games for the Senegal national team.

David in comparison had 12 goals in 33 last season and is 6 months and 11 months younger.

Looking at the award there is no representative from the Belgian league. So it makes sense that maybe what he does there isn't noticed. Both of the other players play for a better known and more exposure national team and have also played in European competition. If David can continue his success domestically and in the Europa League there is no way he doesn't make this list next season.

I think the European games are a big factor, the panel or whatever is more likely to see those.  If Gent continue the way they started, as you say he will be there next year.

Here's an article on David translated from Dutch. The article mentions the two forwards in front of David in the diamond, Roman Yaremchuk and Laurent Depoitre.  Depoitre is a bull and at his peak was probably a better version of Cavallini. Yaremchuk is a much better version of Larin.

No wonder they're successful. They have 12 players in the lineup.

Really prescient article on David back in March.  His former coaches quoted in the article said they felt he had a chance to be really good but probably didn't anticipate he'd become elite so quickly.  Also, wondering if Herdman will considering changing the formation to have David play CAM or false 10 like his current role with Gent.

Thanks.  I am tempted to learn some Flemish for fun and these situations.

Anybody know what language David speaks during interviews.  I saw one the other day but it was translated to Flemish.

Unfortunately, language is a bit of a touchy issue in Belgium.  At Gent, interviews and press conferences for all the non-Flemish speaking players and coaches are in English.  That goes even for the French speaking players whose English is quite weak.  I've only come across one interview in French and I'm guessing the player can't speak a word of English.  Dutch speakers can understand French well, especially at the level of a sports interview but English it is.

I had noticed that with the coach. But him being Danish, I did not assume he knew the local languages well.  Interesting to know what language they use in training. At least three Ukrainians in the squad of the top off my head.
