Is that because he’s playing poorly or because nobody is passing to him?

Nobody passing to him. In fairness, Weah is more active.  I have noticed that David doesn’t seem as high-energy as some other players when pressing and harrying.

Bamba and Ikone both guilty of dribbling into defenders or shooting when better options are available.

Jo played quite well when on the ball. Hardly put a foot wrong but as we know, with the style that Lille play, he just doesn’t get much of the ball. He’s isolated as the #9 up top. His job seems to be to clean things up, lay off a simple ball and try to be a bit tenacious on defenders. It’s a brand new role for him and he’s struggled overall. But we’ve seen some progression and the coaches still trust him.

Drawing the penalty was great movement and a big turning point in the game. He’s contributing. He’s not bagging in goals like we had wished but hey, top of Ligue 1 and consistently starting. That’s what’s important and he’s proving to fans and his coaches that when he plays, they succeed. He’s doing a lot of little things right.

Personally, as most of you are, I am not a fan of this side. Completely miserable to watch and a lot of selfish players seemingly playing for themselves. But it is what it is right now. Jo will become better from this situation. He will become tougher and a more well-rounded footballer. A football career usually spans over a decade with loads of highs and lows. No matter who the player is. Jo’s career is just starting and has been massively successful.

This is a road bump that we may all look back on, including Jo, and think was needed for progression.

I, for one, am shocked...shocked I tell you, that Payet is in the bottom 5.

It's a long season. How you finish is most important. Not easy being the club record signing, especially when you join without a real pre-season.

It may take a full season to find his feet. He still needs to adapt to the level of play and the style of play. He is playing heavy minutes as part of the forward rotation, and whether Gatier is gifting him those minutes or not doesn't even matter, because he is only going to benefit from the game time.

To date he has played 1424 minutes.

For comparison Yilmaz has played 1261, Yazici has played 953, and Weah has played 312. That is a lot of minutes for an unproductive player, so David is either doing something right or Gaitier is just extremely patient and trusts he'll get better. Either way, better to be on the field than ride the bench!

This could be a Memphis Depay situation. He took a big leap from PSV to Manchester United and struggled to find the net, but then he dropped down to Lyon and became the massive player he was for the Netherlands the whole time.

Point is that not everything is straight forward. David may figure it out at Lille, or he may need to change clubs, we don't know yet. If things don't work out at Lille it's not the end of the world, and it is not to say he is a bad player. If he was truly a bad player I don't believe he would be afforded this amount of time. Lille are fighting for the title after all.
