What a disappointing fall. He must have a shit agent or zero confidence in his ability. You'd think he could come to the CPL team or a Scandinavian type league and get at least get a pro contract . Non-professional football though? Close the thread, he's now essentially a Sunday League player like many of us. Reminds me of Josh Doughty just throwing in the towel after ManUtd. There is a solid foundation there, why give up? Once again, its a reminder that major academies don't mean much at all. Nothing but brand hype. Quite the contrary. If you have a decent agent, anyone coming out of an academy like that should have a pro career,. Or at least not be stunted at 20 years old. It's a question of managing your capital, and La Juve beside his name was part of that. Later, if it doesn't pan out, that's another question. Yup I’m of Italian heritage, both my parents are from Italy they came here in the late 1950’s when they were in their early 20’s , but there seems to be a big stigma even attached to Canadian kids of Italian heritage in Italy when it comes to soccer. I find it very strange that apart from Enzo Concina who had a decent career in Serie B Italy’s second tier that no Canadian even of Italian heritage has had any career or played at any of the top 3 tiers in Italy. We’ve had players playing at decent levels in all the top 5 soccer countries in Europe but apart from Concina who played at a decent level in Italy no one else . I just think as soon as they know a player is from Canada a stigma is placed on them. However, slowly this should change with what Davies, Larin and David are doing , but yes Canadian players have not been given the chance in Italy like they have had in other countries and I don’t think is was purely based on talent but also on from the fact they were from Canada unfortunately. However, saying all that in this case with Busti don’t think this was the case because even though born in Canada he grew up from a very young age in Italy and for all intent and purposes was looked at as an Italian player, so unfortunately maybe he is just not good enough who knows. Bison44
Funny how that is SoccMan. While Germany (another top tier league) seems extremely open and inviting to CDN (from top to bottom) and has for a long time. You would have thought Stalteri or maybe Corrazin could have got a shot in Italy. Weng and narduch

Bison44
Well all the guys mentioned were good enough to play in the top tiers in Italy, its not like we havnt had good italian/canadians. A seemingly cultural (that soccman is talking about) bias against them in Italy is strange. johnyb

Big club academy and big club aren’t the same thing. This. The one cap he made for us it was clear as day that he wasn't close to being good enough for that level. He got called up simply because he was in Juve's academy and i'm gonna take a guess that they never actually went and watched him play before calling him up. SoccMan
I’m talking about players actually playing a few seasons in either serie b or even a not guys who had basically had an espresso in serie b or a and then where done. The only one is still Enzo Concina who actually had a career there .

narduch
I can't find the Concina's career stats. The best I could come up with is this: Canadians in Serie B: Julian Uccello - 5 games with Crotone in 2010/2011 Rocco Placentino - 2 games with Avellino in 2003/2004 Andrea Lombardo - 1 game with Atalanta in 2005/2006 Axel Desjardins - 1 game with Spezia in 2019/2020 Bertuzzi44, hamiltonfan and johnyb 2

Free kick
Sandro Grande. Played in Serie B. Came back and finished his career with the Impact. He was a very underrated player for Canada. He got a shot to play for the NT under Yallop (i think it was Yallop) and he was very good. edit: @The Real Marc already mentioned this. Just noticed now. The Real Marc
Parameters of the request aside, I don’t think a multi-year career in the Serie Cs is anything to put down - we’ve regularly celebrated (and called up) guys from iffy European second tiers, like Scotland or Denmark or Belgium or Norway, plus the English third and fourth and fifth divisions. Will agree though that it’s interesting how Nats we’ve had in tier two England and Germany but so few in tier two Italy -ditto Spain (Hume, Kevin De Serpa) or France besides Dasovic’s one year stint. In fairness to him: (a) the assistant coach survived the attack; (b) even if he had succeeded in killing him, we have about another 4 or 5 assistant coaches these days, so attempting to strangle 1 of out of every 5 assistant coaches is actually a pretty low percentage when you think about it. 😉 Free kick, The Real Marc, MtlMario and 2 others 2
