Unless there is a new ownership group identified (still early, but no proof so far), I'd be happy with OSEG, warts and all, resurrecting the Fury, or whatever club, in Ottawa in the CPL. There's no rationale for OSEG coming in and causing more drama. As you can tell, I'd rather OSEG than nothing. And is nothing in Ottawa is better for the CPL than OSEG? Cause if the answer is yes, then I'd be questioning the CPL big time. Al, you likely already know this, but for others following this thread, a pro basketball team with no affiliation to OSEG will be playing in an OSEG-run facility next year: https://ottawasun.com/sports/basketball/blackjacks-get-ottawa-back-in-the-pro-basketball-game From the article: The CEBL’s 20-game, spring-summer schedule for 2020 will be announced Nov. 26 in Toronto, but sneak peeks include the BlackJacks starting on the road before playing a home opener May 14 against the Hamilton Honey Badgers. That will be the first contest under a multi-year rental agreement for TD Place arena TD Place arena is where the OSEG-owned Ottawa 67's play. If this can happen for a basketball team, it can certainly happen for a soccer club, whether or not OSEG is involved. Sébastien
A decent piece here on the group of fans pushing for a CPL franchise. https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1405879/fury-partisans-soccer-equipe-ottawa-cpl Unfortunately, the CPL failed to offer a comment, other than to specify that the Commissioner would be unavailable for weeks. For a league complaining about lack of media attention, and that has been criticized for poor engagement in French, you'd think they'd do better here. You can't be shocked that they aren't earger to comment the Fury folding and CONCACAF drama. For sure they'd be asked about the negotiations and to respond to OSEG allegations and comments. You dont want to play that game, especially when you plan to bring a team to that city. That won’t happen if the Fury’s voice is the only one they hear. I understand but they have nothing to gain to answer Fury questions, worst, giving an interview refusing to corroborate or deny anything about the Fury. Reading the article, they printed that CPL refused to show their finances and attendance figures to OSEG. L'organisation n'a eu aucun contact avec la Ligue dans les derniers mois et n'a eu accès à aucune donnée concernant les assistances et les finances du circuit. This makes it sound like "a fact" that OSEG had no acces to the league's financial numbers and attendance figures. They should have added "according to OSEG or according to ...". That's a misleading statement...intentional or unintentional. If I caught that, the league caught that too and it makes sense that they aren't in any hurry to talk about the Fury. That's a hard to believe to be quite honest as we have a parrot here micro-analyzing the attendances and counting empty seats. As for seeing financial figures, context is needed here. After saying "No" to CPL, the league would have to be stupid to share anything with them. The league being so secretive on their finances gives them an edge on negotiations with talents among other things. Why risk "leaks" by a party that blindsided you when announcing that they'd stay in USL, a rival league? There was a breach of trust. Clearly, emotions are still running high in regards to the Fury folding and now's not the time for the league to talk about it. On the bright side Le président du Ottawa Sports and entertainment Group (OSEG), Mark Goudie, a déjà mentionné qu'une nouvelle équipe pourrait jouer à la Place TD. OSEG said that a new club would be allowed to play at TD Place. So I guess that ends the debate "where would a CPL club play". What make sense is to get the team to TD Place. If the team and league is successful and a sure thing that keeps growing, start looking at your own modular stadium for obvious reasons like not having to rent a facility way too big for your needs at high costs while not retaining most of the revenues except ticket sales. Without a deal like OSEG or what FC Edmonton was seeking, that's not really sustainable long term Edited November 27, 2019 by Ansem Bbeto

Ozzie_the_parrot
With Inter Miami quite likely to be in Fort Lauderdale permanently if they can't close the stadium deal in Miami maybe there's a niche for that and from a USL standpoint it undermines NISA. Think it's unlikely, but if OSEG get a large enough payment out of this maybe their bean counters will view CanPL entry more favourably If they can use that cash to pay all or most of a CanPL entry fee? m-g-williams

I doubt CPL wants anything to do with OSEG until they explain what they meant by "being held hostage" comment. Time to move on. All I need to know is that OSEG would make TD place available for a CPL club if there was one. That's all that matters.
