Corbin-Ong starting for Go Ahead Eagles. They are up 3-1 over the league leaders in the 2nd half. Where does Cobin Org sit on the CanMNT's depth chart. If they promote to First Division and plays regularly he would have to be considered a key player for us no?

It would be hard to argue against it.

Really depends on how he plays for us more than anything. The lower half of the dutch league isn't all that great. I'd say the only time we should take a league into consideration when deciding if a guy is a key player for us is when that league is a top 5 league in the world, or if it's liga mx because of the concacaf side of things. After that its kind of down to the player. Hutch is a key player for us, but would someone playing for a freshly promoted turkish team really be a lock on our squad just because he's surviving relegation in the turkish league? Now if its one of the big teams in certain leagues like Ajax, PSV, Besiktas, or even a team like Anderlecht, those are big spots for Canadians to be and I'd say that would tell us that player should get more than a few chances to prove he's a key player for Canada.

Go Ahead defeated Jong Ajax 4-1. Corbin-Ong started at LB and was subbed off in the 71st with all goals already scored. Ajax had a man sent off in the 40th with the score already 2-1.

Go Ahead now sit in 9th place with 14 points. They are 7 points behind 2nd place NEC for the first promotion spot (Jong Ajax cannot promote).

Considering the depth chart and the fact that a lot of players don't even play topflight I'd say: yes a player in Turkish top league does automatically qualify for the MNT. Same goes for the Eredivisie. And I even agree with you that the lower end in the Netherlands isn't all that. Still...

Btw funny how the Dutch second division is called Eerste Divisie (First Division that is). Topflight is Ere (honors)

Jon Viscosi's TPS has won promotion to the Finnish top flight with a 1-1 draw against Honka in the final game of the season. Viscosi played all 27 games for TPS. If he is still TPS' #1 keeper next year, I think that puts him on the national team radar around the Irving / Farago / Melvin area of the depth chart.

26 year old Canadian GK Jonathan Viscosi has won Finland's Ykkönen (second tier) and earned promotion to Veiikkausliga! (First Division)

In 27 games, he was solid recording 15 clean sheets and only conceded 14 goals

If he is indeed the Number one next season and his club remain mid table - lower half and survive the relegation battle what would that mean for his CMNT Chances?

Hidden gem, late boom I guess

To be fair Simon Thomas plays in the Norwegian second tier and wasn't even a starter this season. He'll also be back on the top flight

Wassey started for Paderborn against Stanese`s VFR who had him on the bench. Paberborn won 3-0

Straith played 90 for lotte

Lotte tied the Werder Bremen 2nd team 1-1 and continued their strong results since Straith's arrival. Straith was taken down in the box on a corner, winning a penalty that tied the game although he did not take the penalty.

Wassey scored Paderborn's first goal on a penalty although he was not the player fouled on the play. He was subbed out in the 79th minute. Stanese did not get off the bench for Aalen

Seems to be the year of Canadians turning bad teams into good ones with Straith, Cavallini and Corbin-Ong's teams all having improved results after their arrival.

Stephen Eustaquio played for Leixeos against Academica. It was a 1-0 win. Leixeos are now in second and oh yeah there is this

When asked about recently attracting the attention of Portugal's U21 coach?       "I feel connected to both countries (Canada & Portugal) and I would never turn down a call up!  But I know that one day I will have to decide, and in that moment I'm sure I will make the right decision"

In Spain

This morn, in Tercera, Madrid region, Bakr Abdellaoui started for Alcorcón and was subbed off m 27, I believe because they went down to 10 just before and chose to put on a defender. Good to get the start for him in any case. They drew Getafe B 1-1.

In the Murcia division, Miki Cantave subbed on m. 74 as Lorca won away to La Union 1-3. They are leading their group.

Sure theyre going to get a look at the national team, but I wouldn't say automatically lock them in as a "key player" for us, which is what we were originally talking about. I still think they need to earn their spot though. I don't think our depth is that bad that we have to call up anyone just based on the league they play in unless its a big league. I don't think a player playing for one of the bottom teams in the dutch top flight or turkish league is any more impressive than a guy breaking into the midfield at TFC with Bradley and Vazquez. They'd have to win the spot over a current Panama international, and future USMNT player in Delgado, a current MNTer in Osorio, and be a better option than an aging but still very good Cheyrou.

Even in the case at hand with Corbin-Ong, does him playing in the dutch league automatically mean he's better than Adekugbe, de Jong, Edwards, or even Ashtone Morgan, Tyler Pasher or Brett Levis? I think it means that he should get a call up and we'll see what he can do over the course of a few games.

I don't know about being a "key-player" but Tosaint Ricketts was a regular Mnt player when playing D2 Turkey. And not even in the upper half.

Btw of the left backs you mention, only Adekugbe MIGHT be better, IF he's playing regularly.

The same could be said about De Jong
