CDNFootballer
NASL INTERIM COMMISSIONER RISHI SEHGAL RELEASES STATEMENT FOLLOWING APPEAL HEARING Today, we made our case for relief to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and we are thankful to have had our day in court. We are hopeful that we will obtain a ruling that will protect soccer for all and maintain the opportunities that the NASL provides to players, coaches, referees and fans across the country. http://www.nasl.com/news/2017/12/15/nasl-interim-commissioner-rishi-sehgal-releases-statement-following-appeal-hearing

CDNFootballer
Rocco Commisso Is Fighting to Unleash American Soccer and He Has Absolutely No Reason to Back Down. American soccer has problems. It’s not a secret. In October 2017, I was able to witness those problems firsthand. I sat as close I could to the action when NASL went head to head with U.S. Soccer in a Brooklyn courtroom. For some weird reason, MLS lawyers were there, too. In fact, they were the only ones sitting on the “US Soccer” side of the room. Well, there was one other reporter actually. But the NASL side was packed with soccer fans, journalists, team owners, and other members of the soccer community. It was easy to tell that NASL were the good guys. I was very lucky to meet Rocco for a brief moment. And you’ll hear me tell that story during the podcast. http://343coaching.com/podcast/soccer-by-3four3/rocco-commisso-fighting-unleash-american-soccer-absolutely-reason-back/

Instead, the NASL will align its schedule with the international soccer calendar and play from August through the following spring.

Apparently that rumour is not true, "Here is the problem, Silva is entrenched in the Promotion/Relegation battle more so now than ever before. Silva’s account is not usually active on twitter but over the past weeks it has grown to be a hot bed for the promotion/relegation front. Silva is also reportedly helping finance Eric Wynalda’s campaign for the USSF presidency. Why would he bolt to the USL now? We reached out to Miami F.C. CEO Sean Flynn for comment about Rueter’s tweets, to which he replied “Nothing to comment … focusing on NASL beginning in Aug 2018”." http://magiccity.soccer/2018/01/12/a-chaotic-off-season-the-nasl-story/

CDNFootballer
NASL denied injunction to obtain temporary Division II status The latest gut punch to a league hanging on by a thread was thrown on Friday when the North American Soccer League (NASL) was denied its injunction to obtain temporary Division II status. The latest decision from the Court of Appeals doesn’t affect the antitrust lawsuit currently ongoing being NASL and USSF, which was filed in 2017. As NASL is currently constructed, just six teams remain intact in the league, although Miami FC and Jacksonville Armada have pursued other opportunities while NASL awaits its future. The New York Cosmos, Puerto Rico FC and expansion sides 1904 FC and California United FC round out the field of clubs that remain. http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2018/02/24/nasl-denied-injunction-to-obtain-temporary-division-ii-status/ NASL's 6 remaining clubs will meet in the next two weeks to look at options going forward. Its moved to the international schedule format this year and its 2018-19 season is set to run from August 11 - June 1.

masster
Gotta say I love Rocco's hubris! Put your money where your mouth is. From the article, I don't think he is asking for anything unreasonable. Why does the NASL have to deal with regulations that MLS never had to in its early years? Fair question. https://www.si.com/soccer/2018/04/30/rocco-commisso-us-soccer-nasl-cosmos-offer-500-million?utm_campaign=si-soccer&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=socialflow_twitter_si

There were no Standards during MLS early years. As for Rocco putting his money where his mouth is - nothing could be further from the truth. $5m would have saved the Deltas. $7.5m the Eddies and PRFC. NASL would be playing right now if Rocco spent 1/5 of what he is proposing last year. Same goes with Silva. He has $4b to give to MLS but won't spend a dime in revenue share with other NASL clubs? Nice try.

Nice try. Except Rocco and Silva weren't given a chance to do that, there was no indication the USSF would deny the NASL D2 sanction last September. As it was found out later, it was kept secret that NCFC owner Malik (apparently working against NASL from within) was jumping to USL and this was dropped on NASL at the meeting in September. Its plainly clear to most the favoritism USSF has for MLS and its minor league USL and how they've worked against the NASL, changing and attempting to change the standards when NASL applied for D1 sanctioning in 2015, leading up to the denial of NASL for D2 sanctioning last September with NO chance to reapply when at the same time the USL application was looked at and when it didn't pass they gave that league more time to come back and reapply and a further 2 years to meet the requirements. CDNFootballer
NASL’s federal antitrust lawsuit against USSF and MLS proceeds In answering the complaint, the USSF and MLS both declined the opportunity to file a motion to dismiss. “This clears the path for the NASL to obtain the discovery to prove our claims. Getting discovery from both the USSF and MLS is a critical point in the litigation process. Indeed, the USSF concedes in its answer that if the NASL can prove its allegations, we will have presented a valid claim against the USSF’s use of Professional League Standards to eliminate competition to MLS.” The NASL has recently sought to meet with USSF concerning an offer by New York Cosmos chairman Rocco B. Commisso to invest up to $500 Million to strengthen and expand men’s professional soccer in the U.S. To date, USSF has been resistant to the meeting by remaining unwilling to send authorized decision makers and agreeing to sufficient confidentiality protections to ensure that the conflict of interest concerns that the NASL has raised in both lawsuits do not corrupt the evaluation of the proposed forward-looking investment. http://www.nasl.com/news/2018/05/14/nasls-federal-antitrust-lawsuit-against-ussf-and-mls-proceeds
Rheo
He's extended his deadline for the $500 million offer http://www.espn.com/soccer/north-american-soccer-league/story/3508709/rocco-commisso-extends-deadline-to-us-soccer-for-$500m-nasl-offer In the meantime, a few more details of Commisso's plan have emerged. The plan calls for the league to have at least 10 teams for the 2019 season, and aims to obtain Division I sanctioning for the 2020 season with a minimum of 14 teams. Commisso says a total of 12 markets have already been identified, and include former NASL sides New York, Jacksonville, Miami and Puerto Rico as well as current NPSL teams in Hartford, Detroit and Chattanooga. CDNFootballer
Donna Shalala’s conflicted interest at US Soccer exposed as central point in lawsuit "Lawyers defending Donna Shalala and rest of the US Soccer Federation’s Board from a personal lawsuit just accidentally previewed their legal defenses in a New York court hearing, which exposed that they’re probably going to lose the case, badly. Shalala and the US Soccer Board voted to kill the North American Soccer League (NASL), an emerging competitor to Major League Soccer (MLS), whom she and the rest of the board favor, while engaging in a tremendously conflicted business relationship that has sent a billion dollars in television money rolling towards the struggling league’s ownership group. Donna Shalala was supposed to be an Independent Director, but instead she began doing public business with MLS, which included a stint as their illegally unregistered lobbyist when she sought public land for a stadium deal including her former employer’s football team, the University of Miami, and a Miami MLS team. That created a major conflict of interest. US Soccer’s lawyers are arguing that because they used independent directors, like Shalala, they should be insulated from the conflicted decisions that they made. However, Donna Shalala’s illegally undisclosed lobbying will blow that argument clear out of the water once the case moves into the trial phase, which is expected any day once Judge Andrea Masley renders a decision on the dismissal hearing which took place last month in her New York City courtroom. Donna Shalala literally slept through the key hearing where US Soccer decided to kill MLS’ competition." https://medium.com/@grantstern/donna-shalalas-conflicted-interest-at-us-soccer-exposed-as-central-point-in-lawsuit-66292af69f1a
