rkomar
Fleming's and Rose's teams made it through the first round without them. I'm relieved because it would have sucked if their seasons had ended while off playing friendlies for Canada.

rkomar
Kinzner and Shymka's Colorado Buffs make it to the second round. WVU won handily yesterday, and the five Canadians played a big part in that. I had no idea Easther Mayi Kith was Canadian. She looked really good in Buchanan's old spot, and St. George is doing a credible job in Lawrence's old position. It's nice that those two star alumni are replaced by two other able Canadians. tc-in-bc
^[ 1 ] Colorado are in for a tough one against North Carolina on Friday. Also there is an interesting match up here with Colorado striker Marty Puketapu of New Zealand vs UNC striker Alessia Russo of England . Kinzner's offensive stats with Colorado are a little disapointing : 0 points this year; 11 points ( 4 goals, 3 assists ) last year. ^[ 2 ] I would also add that Rylee Foster picked up a win and her 11th clean sheet of the year for WVU. [ 3 ] Princeton advance into the next round. Natalie Grossi picked up a win and her 11th clean sheet of the year; Vanessa Gregoire with an assist. [ 4 ] Florida State advance into the next round. Gabrielle Carle playing fullback scored her first goal of the season. [ 5 ] USF advance into the next round ( Evelyne Viens with a goal and two assists ) and will meet Florida (gators) with Deanne Rose on Friday! [ 6 ] UCLA ( Fleming ) has Northwestern on Friday. [ 7 ] Other schools with Canadians that are still in the tournament: South Carolina, Duke , Notre Dame, Wisconsin,Washington State. [ 8 ] Schools with Canadians now out of the tournament: Ohio State, Stony Brook, Rice,TCU,Arkansas,FGCU,Cal, UCF, and Utah Valley
rkomar
Phew! WVU squeaks by Rutgers in a penalty shootout. Proud to see Foster make two saves, and St. George, Portillo and Mayi-Kith put in three of the four penalties for WVU. Unfortunately, Pierre-Louis bashed her knee in a rash challenge on her part and had to come out earlier. I hope she can come back for the next game, because all of the Canadians were playing very well. I was very impressed with Rutgers' defensive efficiency. Every WVU player was going one-on-two or one-on-three the whole game in Rutgers' defensive third. The first defender would barge the opponent off the ball and the others would mop up. With arguably the best goalie in the NCAA, their plan to win the game in a penalty shoot-out almost worked. Too bad for them they ran into the Canadians at that stage. rkomar
A pile of Canadians leave the tournament as WVU loses to Penn State 1-3. Too bad, but the WVU attack just wasn't dangerous enough. It didn't help that Abam played in the back line in place of the injured Pierre-Louis. Penn State were the better team, and that's that.
tc-in-bc
[ 1 ] A good weekend for some Canadians: Rebecca Quinn with a multi point match on Friday. Deanne Rose with a golden goal today and Jessie Fleming with an equalizing PK. [ 2 ] Four of the remaining Elite Eight schools have Canadians on them: Duke ( Quinn,Munro) ,Florida ( Rose) , UCLA ( Fleming, Faulknor ) and Princeton ( Gregoire, Grossi, Sheppard, Azermadhi ). [ 3 ] The Elite Eight matchup of UCLA vs Princeton will have some intriguing Canadian against Canadian action. Princeton senior Vanessa Gregoire and Jessie Fleming were team mates on U20 CANWNT at the 2014 FIFA U20 WWC. Princeton sophomore Olivia Sheppard is currently part of Bev Priestman's U20 pool . And Princeton sophomore GK Natalie Grossi had a good regular season with 11 clean sheets this year.

tc-in-bc
Though Simone Wark is on South Carolina's roster, my hunch is she's not going to play in this tournament. Wark only made one appearance for South Carolina in September and since then hasn't made a game day lineup. Additionally, her name is not on South Carolina's current combined team stats page. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/scar/sports/w-soccer/auto_pdf/2017-18/stats/season_stats.pdf

tc-in-bc
^I think if you look closely you'll see that I wrote that Gibson inexplicably wasn't part of the the 2016 U20 WWC team -- meaning that there was no known explanation as to why. So it's possible that Gibson declined an offer from Canada to stay with Cal for the NCAA tournament. Or maybe , Gibson's brief time with Canada just soured her on Canada altogether. Or maybe, Worthington didn't like what he saw and chose not not to select her for the U20 WWC team and a year later, Gibson is a MAC Hermann trophy semifinalist.
