General Discussion on CMNT

I think this first call up will be very incumbent heavy.  Obviously no Buchanan, but all the others will return, with perhaps Ugbo getting back in there at the expense of one of the other forwards.

October may be a better opportunity to see one or two tweaks with younger Euro prospects or maybe an MLS guy is in tbe kind of form that keeps him hard to leave off.

The guys from Ontario think Canada is an unarguable basketball powerhouse, mostly based on vulgarly correlating NBA talent, despite extremely thin evidence to support the claim in terms of results.

I was also bothered by the result too, but not to the point of thinking it was aberrant in any way.

At what point did you start to consider Belgium a powerhouse in international soccer again? 2012? 2014? 2016? Definitely by 2018 right? I think our trajectory in international basketball has been largely the same as their international football team, a team with promising young players playing on the best clubs in the world but initialing failing to live up to full expectations but eventually finding some international success in the last few years.

Apparently some of the standouts from France are eager to return to the NBA.  Yabusele and Cordinier who were both originally drafted in the NBA have been rumoured to return to the NBA.  The former, Yabusele who played with the Celtics a few years ago is reportedly eager leave Real Madrid and return to the NBA once again.

Anyone know how much $$ Canada soccer made from the Copa America?

In the end, it seems to break like this.  Out of a total $72 million U$ prize pot:  $16 for 1st...$11 for 2nd...$7 for 3rd...$6 for 4th...$4 apieice for 5th thru 8th...and $2 apiece for 9th through 16th.

So Canada earned $6 million U$.  An awfully lucrative tournament overall...maybe their best?  I have no idea, but it's a major result, and pots only grow after all.

Four big Main Stage interviews from The Allstate Soccer show in Mississauga on Sun Sep 15/24. Includes details of the CPL, NSL (new women's league), League1 Canada, and Canadian national teams men's and women's.  Lots of pics too!   Jonathan Osorio and Richie Laryea discuss their Copa experience in one.

Perhaps the national team's new Mafia involvement will be the next thing for Westhead to investigate:

I swear I saw Tony Soprano and his crew in the crowd for the USA game. It looked like he was giving odds for the game. Paulie and Puss were roughing up a security guard at the exit.

Here I was all ready to dispute this but I realize you are right, this is the breakdown, good work. I guess I had it figured a different way (2 million each appearance and prizes on top of that).

So that is close to 9 million Canadian in prizes. A part goes to the players on whatever deal they have. We lost a million US, letting Suárez score late for Uruguay.

Then there are our appearance fees for the friendlies. I don't know what they could have been, but usually they cover all your expenses, as you are a guest, and then you get a quantity on top. It was reported back in the day that Iran was to get 200,000 on top of expenses to play that friendly at BC Place. I imagine we also made something, in function of the gate potential of those Netherlands and France friendlies, but really do not know how much. I suppose their respective federations have reported the quantities in their financials, who knows where to look for those. We also would have made something from both of the September window matches.

I entirely get it, who knows, they might still be off...very strange how these final numbers did not appear anywhere....only "...and then X more for this...and then Y more for this..." versions! that strangely don't ever tell a complete story somehow...
