Alberto7
Hi all, I have been away from the soccer scene for a while and I have a question: Since the W-league folded, what women's teams exist in Canada? Is it just the two BC teams in the WPSL and the teams in League1 Ontario? Are there others?
shermanator
Calgary Foothills has a women's club in UWS, which is the highest level of club soccer in this country right now. They just finished their first season, placed second in the West conference.
Alberto7
Thanks for the info. I was not aware of the UWS. A quick search reveals that there are a lot of former W-league and WPSL teams in that league. Sad that women's soccer in Canada has come to this. Vic
Shout out to the thousand goals scored by young Canadian women in USPORTS so far this year. Because Canadian schools don't have the luxury of a ream of full-time rah-rah marketing staff paid for by men's sports and Title IX like American schools, they kind of get left behind in support. But like Canada good things often come in small humble packages. UMan are hosting nationals in three weeks, perhaps the next Desiree Scott will be on the field. A few of us from Red River Rising are going to go out and watch some of the games. The Bisons play at 6:00 pm on November 9th. If you are in Winnipeg and want to join us you can buy tickets here: https://sportandrec.umanitoba.ca/UOFM/public/category/browse/CHAMPIONHOSTING I guess I should probably make a separate thread for this as well
Vic
Should be a great time. Blanket, thermos, good snacks, pray for sunshine. Hope you can drop some local colour commentary.
