Canadian Wonderkids/Prospects

We're not at the golden age yet, but why not ?

I figure the cutoff should be 17 and under, since you're an adult at 18.

so the question is, do we have any wonderkids coming up ? Besides Alfonso.

One name ive heard of is Joey Colishaw's, after that I don't know any.

We have Ferri who is highly touted yes ?

my apologies if I've made a similar thread, I'm not good with the search tool.

Borges is a '98, so he's too old to meet your cut-off date.

14 yr old (2003) Nakye Duncan of TFC Academy and formerly Sanjaxx academy has talent, may be worth keeping an eye on. He won the Feyenoord Canada talent ID camp in 2014.

And he scored against Barcelona with the U12's at a tourny in Spain.

Tristian Jumeau - 17 years old, Burnley U18 ( 2nd Year Scholar). Hasn't been played for Canada yet,  hopefully Arfield can convince him to play for Canada and not France and England. He won Clarets’ Scholar of the Year 2016/17. He has also been  named by the  Guardian has Burnley top  prospect . Next  season Burnley will be playing tougher competition due to being upgraded to a category 2. Also there has been talks of him  jumping up to play with that u-23. His Younger brother Olivier who is 15, he's a goalie playing for Morecambe

Liam Millar - 17 , Striker Liverpool U18

https://www.transfermarkt.com/liam-millar/profil/spieler/487417

http://canadasoccer.com/index.php?t=profile&pid=6079

GP 17 - 5 goals

had a hat trick in his  first game he played, against Blackburn U18

he played for U20 Canadian team this year.

Hopefully he can pick where he left off before his injury. Klopp has already featured 2 17 year old strikers this term in Ben Woodburn and Rhian Brewster, so if he performs, the opportunity is there if hes able to grasp it

He's not Jordans brother, but glad he loves Canada and wants to play for them.

I didn't know he was too old for the U17, he was in the u18 squad against  El Salvador. I'm kinda surprised they didn't take another look at him for u-20

I read the thread title to mean that the OP wanted to know if there were any special youngsters on the horizon. I mostly see a bunch of Euro-based players that were cut from our youth teams.

I agree the content of this thread could be younger and more unknown but no need to jab at those other players... just mho

Sorry I'm confused by this comment. Was that meant as a jab at these kids? And I don't seem to know any one of them that was "cut" by our youth teams???

i agree perhaps the threads focus could be young and unknown but no need for the other stuff.

And for the record quite a few of those boys do read these threads so perhaps...

First of all Liam's a 99 so he shouldn't even be mentioned in this thread (OP set the cut-off as "17 and under"). Second, that is not a jab, just reality. He asks about "wonderkids", his example is Alphonso Davies who is the youngest player ever capped for Canada, so IMO the bar is set high. Who is the next Davies, Jono de Guzman, Hoilett etc. that will break in to a top flight club as a teenager? That Dutch-Turkish-Canadian kid playing at NEC strikes me as another example, he's also a '99 so not on the list.

If you kids are reading this, i'm not crapping on you. Keep up the good work and if you break into your clubs first team as a teen you'll have proven me wrong.

Generally when talking about youth players, you age them by the birth year and not their birth date. It makes it way easier to keep track of what players are eligible for what youth teams and clearly separates kids into classes.

If we are going to have a thread like this, it would be best to list kids by year instead of by age as it is done by the US Big Soccer forums (Liam Millar, '99 instead of Liam Millar, 17).

I truly believe most of our Euro-based players got cut not because they weren't good but because of political/lobbying from MLS  academies.  Most of our European bassed players play in  premiership academies ( that I can find). I'm sorry but come on, our players have to be good enough! They're playing as an international player, taking away an English player potential opportunity.  Those teams have scouted those players and made a decision on them, so they must be good.  Also they get to train in world-class facilities and play against arguably the best players in the world in their age group.

Yes MLS and  MLS academies are getting better and are growing and are producing good players but come on it's the English Premiership and Serie B.

Also just everyone remembers we got KILLED in the last CONCACAF Under-17 Championship, We lost to CUBA!.... CUBA!

And head coach Paul Stalteri is now an assistant with the Sr. men's team. Man it must be nice, in CSA when you fail  miserably and  embarrassed  the country you get promoted.

Only 1 kid in England was eligible for the U17's and he got called in and looked at but didn't make the cut. The kid in Portugal may or may not be good enough. Belenenses is a smaller club and he may not be one of the better players. Desjardins sounds like a good prospect, i'd like to find out more about him. BTW, he would have got called up to the U20's (Primavera), there is no U23 or reserve league in Italy.

edit: Also those 3 kids hold EU/British passports allowing to play over there prior to age 18.

I wouldn't say our pro academies are getting better. In fact I'd say the opposite. They aren't doing anywhere near the type of job needed to develop top talent.
