Keegan
It’s really great that CPL can assist communities in getting venues that should exist already. There’s no way a city the size of Mississauga should not have a proper stadium but were not like the USA with NCAA teams etc. This is needed. Not if you plan to come there, as an away fan, eat out, drink and stay in hotels..... Just be clear about it. MrsC and Complete Homer

BillyBob
Hey dudes, Yankee here super stoked about the new league. A strong Canada could really help Concacaf's street cred. Anyway, as an outsider I was wondering. Do you think Brampton folks would support a team based in Sauga? You know if it was marketed to the entire Peel Region? I've heard from some folks that York9 is experimental with its branding cause it's an open question if everybody in the area really "identifies" with York. What do you guys think? I think if a team is going to Mississauga, promote it as Sauga. Brampton is close. If fans there want to support it, they will. I think soccer fans in Brampton that really want to support a professional team won't care overall.

I think that this would be the most logical way too proceed. Yes York 9 is looking to ensnare it's entire region but I think it Mississauga were to do this it would be a large mistake. Mississauga is an extremely ethnically diverse city that has deep seeded roots in the traditional football markets (Italy, Portugal, Spain, Brazil etc) as well as the rise of the game in Asia, more and more people that call Mississauga home follow the game. If people in Brampton are interested want to come they will but I don't believe Mississauga should actively chase that market. At least not initially. If you want further proof, just look at the membership numbers. York 9 is at the bottom. Why? I feel it has to do with people not being able to truly identify with the brand. When you ask someone where they are from, they would in all likely hood respond Vaughn, Richmond Hill, Newmarket etc, not York region.

zen
I don't think York's troubles are because of branding at all. This is TFCs market, everyone here knew it would be a tough ask to break into it. Would Mississauga have the same problem? I suspect we would. What the team can do is build a stadium in a prime area - along the LRT line in a walk-able area with lots of bars and other entertainment option so either Square One or Port Credit, spend on decent players, and market itself as a big league team, these things would win people over regardless of the teams name. Even still they will have to play second fiddle to TFC and any team in the GTA will have to be willing to accept that. I will always be TFC first, I grew up with the team and the play will quite obviously be so much better. As for a team name for Peel - FC Sigma Westend? Thoughts? Blindside16
I am not sure where the could fit a stadium in around the square one area. Maybe on the north side of the 403. I think it would be a better fit in Port Credit. I have a hunch that they may be looking Paramount Fine Foods Arena (Hershey Centre). They have been mulling over what to do with that land for a while now. As for a team name for Peel - I like how Westend United rolls off the tongue. 20 hours ago, zen said: I don't think York's troubles are because of branding at all. Playdium is closing down and the parking lots are going to be developed, but I know those are planned to be mainly office and condo. I think Hurontario and Eglinton is a more likely option. I personally think Port credit is a bit harder because there isn't much space left for development and the space that is available developers already have plans for. Additionally, lot of land would have to be acquired, and I don't see the home owners in the area being willing to give up their land. I really hope they don't go with Hershey. Yeah there is a lot of empty space there, but it's a horrible area for a good game day experience. There are no entertainment options, and most people would have to drive there. It's vital that the group conducting the study for the city considers all the variables that drive off-the-field success of soccer teams in North American cities, and form their recommendation based on that. Right now, I'm afraid the recommendation will come down to "rep soccer is already played here, there is a lot of space, and the acquisition cost is low"
to70
Driving along the 401 there is a big sign that says MISSISSAUGA STADIUM. It's located at the Mississauga Secondary School. Drove by along Courtney Park and saw that there is a new field being put. Also, some sort of structure is being erected in the south end. Wonder if anyone knows anything more about this. Tigers
They're building a fieldhouse/airlock building so they can bubble the turf field, I believe. I did some pricing for it, but it was at my old job so I can't go back and check now. Edited August 24, 2018 by Tigers

The city could actually put itself ahead of the curve here by having a fleet of shuttles from downtown to the stadium if they chose to put it there. It would be a win/win in terms of economic boost for bars, restaurants etc around downtown and provide people with an easy option in terms of transportation. Sure, although with the BRT (Mississauga Transitway) and LRT (Hurontario) lines running through Square One, putting a stadium at Hurontario and Eglinton will be one of the most easily accessible spots in the city. Another option is Hurontario and Bristol where they will be building a huge park. Stadium can be integrated into the park but close to the LRT stop. 1996
Don’t worry Mississauga instead of putting money into actual soccer like putting a team in the CPL these idiots would rather waiste their money on the American indoor soccer league the MASL enjoy your Mississauga Metro Stars lol, can’t believe there are still idiots in this country throwing away money on pro indoor soccer , and this is why soccer will never go anywhere in Canada lol!
