Zem
I figured we could use a single thread to discuss and keep track of Canadians playing in Champions League and Europa League, so here we are. Obviously some players might not be staying at their current clubs, but I'll keep it as is until we know for sure if and where they're moving. I've selected any player who is theoretically eligible to play for Canada, regardless of the chances of them doing so. Currently a total of 12 Canadian players are with clubs that will compete in either Champions League (3) or Europa League (9) this year. The draws for the first two qualifying rounds of both competitions were made earlier today, here's the list of players and their clubs' draws: CHAMPIONS LEAGUE First Qualifying Round (27-28 June & 4-5 July) N/A Second Qualifying Round (11-12 & 18-19 July) Ludogorets Razgrad (Milan Borjan) drawn v. Žalgiris (Lithuania) IFK Mariehamn (Andreas Vaikla) drawn v. Legia Warsaw (Poland) Third Qualifying Round (to be drawn 14 July) N/A Play-Off Round (to be drawn 5 August) N/A Group Stage (to be drawn 24 August) Beşiktaş (Atiba Hutchinson) will be seeded in pot 3 or 4 depending which teams advance, they are the third-lowest ranked team out of 22 entering this round. EUROPA LEAGUE First Qualifying Round (29 June & 6 July) Vasas (Manjrekar James) lost 3-7 on agg. to Beitar Jerusalem (Israel) Odd (Olivier Occean & Zakaria Messoudi) won 5-0 on agg. over Ballymena United (Northern Ireland) Lincoln Red Imps (Will Sykes) lost 1-6 on agg. to AEK Larnaca (Cyprus) St. Johnstone (David Wotherspoon) lost 1-3 on agg. to Trakai (Lithuania) Shamrock Rovers (Tomer Chencinski) won 2-0 on agg. over Stjarnan (Iceland) AIK (Kenny Stamatopoulos) won 5-0 on agg. over KÍ (Faroe Islands) Second Qualifying Round (13 & 20 July) Shamrock Rovers (Tomer Chencinski) drawn v. Mladá Boleslav (Czech Republic) AIK (Kenny Stamatopoulos) drawn v. Željezničar Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) Odd (Olivier Occean & Zakaria Messoudi) drawn v. Vaduz (Liechtenstein) Third Qualifying Round (to be drawn 14 July) Braga (Ricardo Ferreira) are seeded into this round, they are currently the 7th-highest seed out of 25 teams entering this round. Play-Off Round (to be drawn 4 August) N/A Group Stage (to be drawn 25 August) Atalanta (Bryan Cristante) will be seeded into pot 2, 3 or 4 depending on which teams advance, they are the 10th-highest seed out of 16 teams entering this round. Zem
Although it was already mentioned in the weekly Canadians Abroad thread, here's a summary of yesterday's results: Manjrekar James was not in the 18 for Vasas in a 4-3 loss away to Beitar Jerusalem. Vasas held a 3-1 lead until the 88th minute when they collapsed. Former Ottawa Fury man Idan Vered scored the tying goal for Beitar. Will Sykes did not appear in the 18 for Lincoln Red Imps in a 5-0 away loss to AEK Larnaca. Olivier Occean started an played 90 minutes for Odd in a 3-0 home win over Ballymena United. Zakaria Messoudi was not in the 18. Kenny Stamatopoulos stayed on the bench for AIK in a 0-0 draw away to KÍ. David Wotherspoon started and played 62 minutes for St. Johnstone in an 2-1 upset loss at home to Trakai of Lithuania. Probably the best story of the day was Tomer Chencinski, who started and kept a clean sheet for Rovers in a 1-0 win over Stjarnan, their first away win in continental competition since 2011. Happy for Tomer. If they win this round I believe they play a team from the Czech republic which will be a good test and also get him more profile. I hope he gets a chance to come to a camp for Canada in the future.

jpg75
Posted by OM on May 17th in the Cristante thread: http://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-radio-riso-petagna-sara-tra-i-top-su-caldara-cristante-e-sensi-971834 Cristante's loan to Atalanta is extended through until end of next season, so he will play in Europa with them and not Benfica.
