CPL new teams speculation

I used to live around there in Whitby. Bayly and Church is pretty close to the Ajax Go Train Station as well, so shuttle buses to the stadium should be doable. I get the feeling that they'd probably be affiliated with Darby FC from L1O as well to provide a pipeline of players.

Considering the massive scale of the development that a stadium would be incorporated into I assume there will be some sort of permanent transportation service to and from the Go Train station. In my neighborhood the casino runs a shuttle every 10 minutes for 12 hours a day to and from the nearest public transit hub.

At this point do people even want the Fury? Hopefully another Ottawa group emerges, even if they were to join the CPL I would be cringing the whole time I was giving them my money and supporting them (though I still would, because, CPL)

Fewer keystrokes than explaining that sanctioning from CONCACAF has always been year by year even for the three MLS team. Wouldn't read any more into that than it being a case of somebody on twitter pointing out the obvious on there being a bit of a rift to be bridged between the Fury and CanPL.

Yes, people want the Fury in the CPL, especially those of us in Ottawa. A non-OSEG CPL club will take a long time and face major hurdles, Fury could move next year.

The city giving up the land for a new SSS would definitely be regarded as steak. I think that's what Rollins' is implying here, that there's positives but little substance.

Is Joe Belan even still pushing for the downtown rail yard land? Think there's plenty of substance given there is a known would be rich investor and preferred stadium location (two things Durham now appears to probably have that are not so clear cut with Laval and Quebec City) with a large grandstand in place and a team taking the field this summer. The absence of steak might revolve around his eagerness to actually sign on the dotted line given he appears to have chickened out on being in at the launch and is still talking in terms of testing the waters for something that might still be years away.

Yes even with everything I believe mostly everyone would still want the Fury to come over.   They are established and in a big market with a good stadium.  If they joined it would strengthen the league and I believe the Fury as well.

Unfortunately, the people who aren't "mostly everyone" are probably high-up in CPL & OSEG.

I kind of feel that, if OFFC ever joins CPL, it will only happen because OSEG decided to sell the team to an outside group.  They know that, if they fold the team, someone else will come into the market eventually, so they might as well make some money first if they don't want to play ball.

I don't disagree, but at this point I have no real interest in supporting the Fury even if they move to CPL. I would probably get seasons tickets, but if they'd been part of the league from the start that "probably" would have been "definitely" (hell, the train to Hamilton, plus hotel, for my partner and I to see the CPL opener cost about what a single season ticket to the Fury would have cost me).

The irony is as someone who lives in one of the "9" of the area that York 9 would represent is that a Pickering team would be much more of a local team given where I live (eastern Markham) than York 9 would be for me given where they play and where they are apparently hoping to play in (assuming that's somewhere in Vaughan or King City from what I last recall reading).

This is where they're supposed to building a stadium.

Really? In California?

I think you may need to check your map...

Edit for those confused: Further down we discover it's only showing a strange location (19450 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino CA) to me. We have no idea why.

Yeah, I meant York 9 when I was talking about Vaughan or King City. But according to the Google maps image, the Pickering stadium would be less than a 25 minute drive from my house, which is less than half the distance to where York 9 currently play and probably a greater disparity from where the stadium they (York 9) want to build is.

Ahhhh. Apologies, I misunderstood.

So will you have torn allegiances? 😁

Worse has come to worst.

I'm so disappointed and disillusioned as a soccer and CPL fan in Ottawa. I was holding out hope that fences could be mended and that the Fury would move next year or at most the year after. With this it seems at CPL franchise in my city is more of a long term prospect.

I don't even know why Ottawa Fury want to be in the USL so badly.

That league sort of became a bit of a joke with all the MLS academy teams. Its kind of  a monstrosity now.

The exclusion of the Ottawa market from CPL for a while is unfortunate, but I am not spending any more effort worrying about the Fury.  The reality is that the CPL is up and running.  Support is generally good, and in some cases great.  The level of play is good, and will improve steadily.  Major sponsorships are secured in the long term and all the pieces are in place for sustained success.  OSEG chose not to be a part of that at a time when their participation would have put all parties in an even stronger position.  Given the way the Fury folks dealt with the situation (and Rollins account parallels what most on here observed in the publicly available info and exchanges on social media) I don't blame CPL for not laying down the welcome mat.  Probably better to forgo the market for a while than be strong-armed into a toxic partnership.  And if the Fury and their fans are content playing NY Redbull 2 and Atlanta United 2 (their last 2 games) then so be it.

We lost almost an entire Supporter's group over the Fury not joining CPL and it's showing in the stadium vibe. Attendance looks low, but it usually is until it gets warmer. As I've said elsewhere, the JdG sounded pretty conciliatory at the SSH meeting last month, but at a CPL presentation the following week a CPL staff member was not. Nobody cares to mend fences for what is best for Canadian soccer - this has become personal. It's the same crap that 's been dogging Canadian development for decades with too many egos involved.

I was wondering why the supporter's section has looked so sparse. So disappointing.

Huh...  This image comes through with the Pickering location, but the original post and all the quotes of it are showing Dlive Inc. at 19450 Stevens Creek Blvd #100 in Cupertino, California on my screen...  Weird error.

Thanks for this new post though. It looks proper.
