Yoginess
It's really great it looks like he'll land somewhere bigger but it's shame if he does surpass CPL. Would've been great for Halifax.

Shaffelburg, a Nova Scotia native entering his senior season at the Berkshire School, could sign with MLS and be eligible for the 2019 MLS SuperDraft in January. German clubs 1. FC Nürnberg, Werder Bremen and Fortuna Dusseldorf have also shown interest in the forward Impressive Does player have dual citizenship? Looks like he won’t be playing much in NCAA as he’ll eitheir strive for MLS or Europe
jpg75
He turns 18 next year so he'll have to wait to sign until then. Could pull a Johnny David and just go train over there for a year...
Keegan
How good is this kid? If he’s just going to play u19 I think it would be better to stay on the North American route. Having a GA deal and being a top pick is almost guaranteed to get him playing time at a good level even if I’m not the biggest MLS fan.. of course the question becomes what happens if you’re good enough to leave. Then again if he does go to Germany what are the chances he gets a summer loan to Halifax? Now that would be amazing.. also nice that he apparently caught the eye of Düsseldorf. The ongoing problem with choosing MLS and signing that GA deal is the option years and the fact that it is usually not worth it for an MLS club to sell a good GA player as it is great for their salary cap situation. lazlo_80
MLS is losing alot of big prospects in their pipeline to Europe, especially Germany. Most of these kids tend to go that direction rather than the MLS route.
Yoginess
MLS mandate to develop players for the USMNT (let alone Canada...) seems to be firmly behind increasing quality of play.

Pottsy3
Dang was really hoping he would be the first star to bloom in the CPL. regardless, this is great news for him!!
BenFisk'sBiggestFan
Honestly, I am worried about this move. I think he would be better starting in the CPL than with TFC. It is incredibly hard to break into an MLS roster, especially with limited playing time. I am all for challenges, but we all know how much Canadians get to play in the MLS. Hopefully he is successful and proves me wrong though.
Blackjack15
It appears that the deal is with TFC 2 and not TFC, so i guess expect to see him playing in the newly formed USL League One (Div 3) next season, meh not as exciting. Thought it would be an MLS contract with a potential loan to CPL or USL championship at the very least, hope I’m wrong!
shamrock
Can't blame TFC for signing talent. They got competition now. Good luck to him!
Bison44
Just as long as they dont bury him in USL 2 and trot him out for the CDN championship to make up CDN numbers. I'm interested to see if he beats out Hundal/Peruzza et al for playing time. Keegan
Copes
Goes to show the tier that CPL is probably competing with (and I don't say that as a dig at CPL). I would have loved to see him in Halifax as well. Maybe there is a loan opportunity, if not, I'm just happy to see the budding career of a Nova Scotian. deschamp86
Depending on the levels of both CPL and USL League One, I could still see him getting loaned to Halifax Obinna
Keegan
I was hoping he would land in Germany and be loaned to Halifax in the summer. This feels like a defensive move since I can’t see how TFC signs him if not for CPL coming in. How do they sign him? Shouldn’t he have had to go through the MLS draft? As I understand it he has spent time with New England and Toronto. Seems like he would be perfect as a Canadian GA player to be drafted (I would prefer that honestly because I’ve always felt players who get drafted have an added incentive to get playing time). That’s a good point. He tore the Düsseldorf RB to pieces during the prospects game in Halifax - thought the Germans may have been using the game as a little scouting venture as well. Can’t imagine we’ll be in a position financially to be purchasing players any time soon. Now that I think of it, it’s unlikely TFC will be doing any loan agreements to CPL at all with TFC II available. I imagine Montreal, Vancouver, or another MLS squad without a “farm” team would be better suited for potential loan agreements.
Ansem
CPL is just starting but this sets the tone for future seasons...an arm race for Canadian talents. CPL teams are busy preparing for season 1. I think in the future, CPL will still have the advantage at uncovering talents and signing them before the MLS Clubs can do it as they'll have more eyes across the country. shamrock, HfxCeltic and hamiltonfan

Keegan
Can anyone confirm his age? I believe he is 17 (born 2001) but everywhere I see including Canada soccer says 99? i don’t think that’s true because he’s still in high school.. meaning he would be 2 years past his grad year?
