Amazing rise of this guy, plays 90 for the probable champion and a Turkish powerhouse.

Crazy that he is probably in the second tier of our player pool if you think of Davies, David, Larin and Staq as the top cohort.  Guys like Buchanan (Brugge), Adekugbe (Galatasaray), and Johnston (Celtic) make a pretty damn exciting supporting cast.   We just need a few more guys to excel in advance of 2026 and we will have a squad that is really well positioned to make some history.

After reading this a question came to me.  Has anyone asked any of these players what they learned or took away from the WC?   Hopefully someone has written about it and I either missed or have forgotten.

Starting in a top of the table game with some pretty good players on the Gala bench.

Stays on his zone. Let his winger do the job in offense.

Saved his team from a goal. Solid tackle. In extremis.

If Sam plays Champions League nxt season, it will be difficult for JH to leave him out of the 1st XI.

It isn’t a talent thing - it is a position/formation thing.   The reality is that we can’t just put our best 11 bodies on the field against top tier opposition.  And solving the puzzle of which formation allows us to maximally exploit our talent is still a work in progress.

It’s funny how far we have come in the past few years that we have one of our usual (though not guaranteed) starters playing at Galatasaray and the board is basically like “that’s nice”.
Even just 2-3 years ago we would all be hugely excited and this thread would be much more active.

Yeah, and that same guy who is starting at Galatasaray may not even be in our starting 11 some days.

Crazy times.

I made a post a month or so ago about how many of our players who are not in the Big Five leagues are regular starters playing for the historically big clubs of the other leagues:  Galatasaray, Porto, Celtic, Bruges, Red Star, Malmo, Basel.  Any one of those five years ago would have drawn a lot of attention
